Patio Door Recommendations Needed

Hello all!

Hoping to get some feedback on patio doors. We are converting our single car garage to a family room and I want to replace the existing garage door with patio doors...not sure if I want sliding or swinging just yet. Any resounding recommendations (specifics are lovely)? Bonus points if they were used in a garage conversion.

*Side note: I did go to Pella and got a $10,000 quote for what I thought was their basic patio door (swinging) with two sidelights and that was without install. If you have a more budget friendly option you were very happy with then I would be thrilled to hear about it. As much as I drool over the high end door options, it just isn't in the budget.

First you need to tell us what you are doing with the driveway because IMO that needs to be decided before the doors . There is for me nothing worse than a garage conversion tha screams garage conversion with the driveway up to the doors.

Have you checked zoning? Can the garage meet building code? Where will you park your car?

We have a plan to adjust our driveway and landscaping but I want to tackle the garage first and then revise it’s surroundings. The entire front of our house already has landscaping drawings done so we will extend those plans around the side of the house.

I have a call into the township about zoning. I have checked online for zoning and it seems legal. We have a long driveway, an area for parking 3 cars, and have installed a new, separate garage that replaces this garage. We have never parked in this garage because it is a small single car garage.

1-Maybe this will help you with your decision "Find the Right Glass Door for Your Patio".

2-I have just bought this sliding door to replace a window to the backyard. While I have not install it yet (on-going project), I can share that I decided in favor of "sliding" because it will not take space from the interior area (as in-swinging doors) or exterior area (as in out-swinging doors), which might be critical for your small converted area.
