I had typhoon bordeaux in my condo kitchen with cherry cabinets. Loved it but then again, I like a busy granite.

Anyone know what this granite is called?

I would paint the kitchen white or off white with a slight gray tint ..then get whatever you like . Busy or not busy . To me the color blue is a nightmare for most countertop choices available ..and for backsplash ..how about just a simple two or three inch of the same countertop . Keep it simple and elegant .

I love the blue walls! I think you should not paint them until you are ready to sell the house, if the market where you live dictates that.

Since I am a blue-lover, and also have cherry cabinets much like yours, let me share my two cents worth about the countertop question! I had originally wanted something light, and my husband wanted something dark, and we ended up with a natural stone called Volga Blue. At first it looks like just another dark counter, but upon closer inspection, you see a matrix of a neutral gray-green with dark inclusions, AND most distinctively, lots of mineral deposits running through the stone with a blue flash that is spectacular. Basically this is the gemstone called labradorite embedded in a kitchen counter. I was blown away when I realized I could have this in my kitchen....and in spite of being very beautiful, it is totally durable and has been easy to care for over the 10+ years we have had it.

Suggest that when you go to look at slabs next week, ask if they have Volga Blue. Every slab will be different -- some have more of the blue flash than others. If you think you might want to go with it, my advice is to look at that stone with more than one vendor since there is tremendous variation.

Your wall color is tough to work with. What color/material are your floors? What is your budget?

That granite you asked about above looks like Bianco Antico. I used it for my island in our last home. It is a bit more expensive, but if you shop around you might get a bargain since white and gray kitchens have dominated the market for past 5 years or so. The slabs vary quite a bit. But it is beautiful.

I am thinking of two options. Taj Mahal which would be beautiful. Or a good slab of Virginia Mist or Jet Mist. It has the look of soapstone but easy maintenance. With good undercabinet lighting and good above head lighting it would be stunning with your blue walls.

With Virginia Mist we could do square backsplash tiles in variations of your wall color! That would help integrate your wall color. That is key factor. Bbl with some ideas.

Here are some backsplash tiles. You need to plan this all out carefully because your backsplash might get crazy over toward your window. But might want to check out some samples of backsplash and let that drive your stone countertop choice. Your wall color is going to be greatly reduced with any backsplash. This is from Cle tile and comes in a wide variety of colors and tones.

If you go darker on your countertop, you could do a multi colored backsplash tile to tie in your wall color. Something like this.

my floors are oak, i love the blue . its newly painted- its just on those 2 walls and joins the wall that runs the whole front of house that is greige.. we are leaning towards light and clean looking, neither of us likes the really dark coloured granite, we are so used of plain white laminate- planning an off white subway tile will cover the blue up under the cabinets and halfway up window area. I will take a look at the granite choices you mention thank you

i just saw this looking online...it reminds me of our kitchen with the blue, granite is river white but i would not get it as a back splash i would do subway tiles... I am going to look for taj mahal, river white, kashmir cream in the slab yards

I think anything that is a light color for your counter top and backsplash would look fabulous with wood cabinets and blue walls! This kitchen I found has a lighter blue wall than yours but I think the light counters keep the kitchen brighter!

this reminds me of our kitchen but i dont want the granite on the backsplash too. This is river white. We looked at a small granite place today, didn't see anything we wanted to buy but are going to travel 3 hrs next week to a big slab yard. Im on the hunt for light with some cream options...i'm in Canada and Taj mahal is not in our budget ..

Have this sample on the counter for a few days- Delicatus granite...can also come with a caramel colour...we are going to look at iin in slab form next week,

Look at white ice, it has some lovely greys and blues in it, but also some warm whites and creams. Ours also has some red garnets and iron oxide spots that goes well with our medium cherry cabinets.

Do look at full slabs. I would keep it quiet. Look at all so called white granites. Your paint color looks cool and your cabinets are warm. Your blacks are cool. So you have to find something that pulls everything together. But also check out darker options. You might be surprised. Look at Black Mosaic. Could look great with cabinets and wall color and a subway that pulls color from the granite will look spectacular.

I vote for the Virginia mist granite, honed. It would look beautiful with cherry cabinets--it's understated with slight white swirls and easy to care for. I'd avoid anything speckly.

Flo Mangan my neighbor has that Black Mosaic, its very striking and I love it but not for me, I have all white counter so I think that would be too much of a change. I like creamy light but when we went to the slab yards we saw something different we both liked We ended up going with Ivory Fantasy...here are the photos, thinking of a 2.5 x 10 simple off white subway tile
