What's on the wall opposite the sign and across from the sofa? We need to see all four walls of the space to make suggestions. Can the hutch go on one of the walls we don't see.

Is that table a rectangle or square? If rectangular, turn it the other way. Can your very nice pendant be lowered? It's hung way too high and doesn't "connect" to the table.

Give yourself, family, and guests something beautiful to look at at your gatherings. An oversized art work in a blue and gray pallatte would be beautiful on that wall. What themes and styles speak to you in art? There are several art sites that offer oversized art. That wall can definitely showcase a large art work that will take the whole space up a notch visually--way more than a message sign.

Consider a buffet on the large wall and ditch the hutch. Looks like you have plenty of room.

I agree we need more pictures of the space. It does look from the pics we can see that the dining table could be turned so the length of the couch and the length of the table match.

For now you could try this:

    Remove 'gather' sign

    Place hutch where sign was

Place a console table centered between hutch and window

Place a large format art over console table

Whatever you do, don't buy "oversized art work" from websites! It's your home, not a dentist's waiting room.

Buy real art from real artists, not stuff cranked out by "...over 200 employees working in its Rocky Mount, Virginia factories totaling 600,000 square feet..." or their factory in China (Uttermost, above). That stuff is mass-market, commercial garbage designed for the lowest common denominator. And it's not cheap. Your home deserves a lot better.

Don't rush. It's art show season (Rittenhouse Square in Philly this coming weekend June 7-9) all over. Turn off the computer, meet the artists, enjoy the day. Don't see something you love, go to another show. Buy something while travelling. No rush.

This article talks about sources for inexpensive art in Philly, but much of it can be applied to any location. Buying inexpensive real art

Oh, and burn that sign; it's in no position to know what to do. ;-)

Is the hutch designed to be cornered or did you just turn it that way? If it has a flat back, I would move it left so from straight on it stands between the sliders and the chandelier. Then add a tall live plant in the corner where it was. Remove the word sign; it is too much like the light fixture in shape and style. Add a large piece of colorful art between the hutch and plant that centers at 5' above the floor and aligned with your light fixture.

Put your hutch flat on the wall where the gather sign currently is, making sure that both it and your table are centered on the light fixture. The hutch will not only fill in that wall somewhat, it will also mimic your window, giving a nice symmetry.

    I'd start there!

I moved the hutch over. I do like it better there! we had our table flipped over the other direction before, and it left too much space between the couch and table. and unfortunately our light fixture cant be lowered :(

Could the hutch be placed where the clock/stand are at the end of your cupboards? Maybe some of your papers, etc. could be placed in the hutch ( inside some baskets)? The long wall with the Gather sign would be a good spot for either art or a buffet or both.

Bigger budget/project needed. I was thinking the hutch needed to go where the blanket rack is, but now that I see the cornered TV, there are bigger fish to fry. Move the hutch flat against the wall left of the double slider. Turn/adjust the table, rug and light fixture (worth a bit of electrical work.) Replace the stair rail with a pony wall pre-wired for TV installation. Sell the double sofa and put the 3-seater opposite the new TV location with blanket rack left of the triple slider. Add a pair of swivel chairs where you have the 3-seat sofa now. Space between them and the dining area shouldn't be an issue.

Pony wall will need to be adequate for the size of your TV, but this is the idea, and a chart for appropriate installation.

If u don't use the drapes, take them down. The room looks better.

No to TV mounted inches above finished floor. Especially with kids! And don't worry about light fixture height esp. with huge fixtures. Taller people hate having a fixture in their face as they stand to sit and esp as they get up from seated. If you turn the table it will pay to have the fixture turned as well. Much more pleasing to the eye. Have fun decorating your room you are off to a good start. Love your table BTW

Can the ladder be moved next to door frame by the tv? Or by stairs?

Love Beverly's solution better than my suggestion. Go for it!
