Hello! Thank you for your inquiry. The counters are soapstone. Our homeowner opted to leave then tops un-oiled, hence the lighter appearance.

    What color soapstone?

  • PRO

Hi Kathryn, the soapstone maintained its natural color since the homeowner chose not to apply oil to the surface. Un-oiled soapstone is mainly grey, with white veining that varies per slab. Adding oil will darken the grey tones to more of a black color.

Hi Gina, this is a natural stone called soapstone. Our homeowner opted to leave the tops un-oiled, hence the lighter appearance.

What are the most durable countertops to choose that don’t stain easily and are easy to clean?

Hello! The most durable, maintenance friendly material for countertops is quartz.

actually I think the answer is quartzite, which is a natural stone. it is very hard, does not stain or etch like marble, and unlike quartz, you can put very hot pots and pans directly on it. Quartz is man made with fillers and polimers and such which will melt under high heat or extended intense sun.

Love the pendants over the island! I want to use them but my ceilings are only 88". Do you remember how long they are and what size globe you ordered?

Thank you, Jarrett, for your replies to multiple questions over the years! It’s nice to see a designer do that here. I like lighter counters but this kitchen is gorgeous.

Beautiful and timeless! I keep returning to this design. May I ask if the floors are solid wood oak? Or engineered wood? I hope to be able to find a quartz counter top with a similar look. Soapstone is lovely, but too soft for a house with 10 grands
