Should I put shutters on my house?

There’s only one window of the front where shutters feel logical or functional to me. It’s the far right window. The double window would look odd with shutters that could never cover the opening. The others are so small and some are on walls where there doesn’t seem to be room.

I might consider contrasting trim if that’s not already in the plans? And I’d want nicer quality garage doors if in the budget, maybe to match your front door.

Brandi, even decorative shutters need to imply they would meet in the center of the window if closed. You can see how wide (and odd-looking) that would make shutters for your largest window. The smaller windows aren't a problem, although I'm not sure if it would be a tight fit for the right side of the upper right window. It seems a wide trim for the windows would be a better choice than shutters for your house.

Could go either way. The house looks great with (per groveraxle's image above) or without. Will you have any outdoor decorative lighting fixtures? Perhaps a hanging lantern in the entry porch? Sconces on either side of the entry? Maybe some goosenecks over the garage entry? As for garage door, in my opinion they always look better with some lites (windows) - it keeps the door from being a solid, blank plane. Also, what color gutters and downspouts? These are often overlooked but can provide some color contrast. Good luck and please post photos of the end result.

Thanks everyone for your input and suggestions! Thanks groveraxle for the visual! I really like the way that looks! Norwood Architects, the garage doors are white and will have lites. The gutters are white as well. There will be two sconces on either side of the front door. I like the idea of adding some goosenecks over the garage entry. That will definitely add some needed character.

You can do purely decorative shutters that are not made to the scale of shutting and covering the whole window. These could be a nice accent on the house, depending on what look you are going for.

Depending on the landscaping options you are going for, you may want to consider the general look of it all together as some settings compliment shutters and others do not!

Nice. I like that the shutters echo the wood posts.
