I have had good bloom with Tuff Stuff in central NH. Mine is about 5 years old. With my short season, the reblooming macrophylla hydrangeas like Twist and Shout are a mixed bag and often don’t produce a lot of flowers since much of their energy goes into regrowth of stems every year.

Thank you NHBabs, that is good to know. I think my zone is probably pretty similar to yours. Interesting that you don't get much of the second bloom. Does Tuff Stuff bloom for you every year? I'll try posting in Hydrangeas, too.

We have been growing our lace caps for 20 years in our garden. Though their name escapes me it is most similar to Twist and Shout. It does rebloom though not as vigorously as the first blooms. We have them about 25-30 feet from the house. Full Sun. They grow 4'x4' which is a good manageable size. We live in So. Maine. zn5.

Thanks Marie and nancylouise! I just saw some nice Twist-n-Shouts at a store today, which might also suggest they'd do well here. The more sheltered spot I have has less sun, but I could put them in more sun a little farther from the house and see how that works. Maybe I'll just try them both and see how it goes. Can't have too many!

I believe twistnshout is bigger than 4x4/ Mine is 6 feet tall and at least 5 wide.

Atmoscat you don't have to let it grow that big. I keep mine trimmed to the height I want. It is manageable that way.

Sounds good. I'm going to try it in a spot with more space and part sun a little farther from the house and see how it goes. If that doesn't work I can move it (assuming it's not too big by then!) Thanks for your input!!
