I wouldn't be tempted to paint a darker colour. It might look good but I'm loving the white with the hardwood floor and your dark furniture. Nice contrast. Do you need additional storage? I like the chair as nightstand but perhaps it's not that practical and you need something with a drawer or two? Love the lines of the small desk but, again, is it practical? Is anything missing functionally in this room? Are you satisfied with the window treatment or do you need a blackout shade? Can you hang up art easily? That's pretty much all I'd do if I didn't need additional storage. (I'd replace the stuffed animal with a vibrant bolster pillow.) One more idea: I might want to move the hats to the door and replace them with a prettier mirror than your current one.

I see what you’re saying tartan. This room can go simple too. The desk isn’t really functional (still scouring Craigslist for the perfect chair). Right now, it’s just something to hold stuff until I get a proper bedside table with drawers. It will most likely be moved out of the bedroom since I don’t like studying in my bedroom anyways. I might need a little bit storage so I’m thinking about getting a tallboy dresser. I will definitely get a better mirror. I’m constantly searching for a floor length one on Facebook Marketplace.

Any consignment or thrift shops near you? You could probably find good quality storage pieces there at affordable prices. Paint a nightstand a bright happy colour and find some inexpensive cushions at a store like Target or Home Goods (don't know where you're located) to "dress up" your bed. You mentioned 10' ceilings. Do you have a fun ceiling fixture? If not, you could replace the current one with something more your style that you could take with you when you move (store the original one to put it back when you move).

I just moved into San Antonio so I’m currently exploring the area for thrift stores. I was considering swapping the ceiling fan for a chandelier once I find a place to store the ceiling fan. I was wondering what to put on the head of the bed. Going with the simple theme, I was considering wall mounting one of my stag horn ferns and putting it there just like this.

I absolutely would paint it a dark color leaving the white woodwork including the doors. What a fabulous contrast that will be and it will actually make the room feel cozier and warmer. i'd then consider white bedding and pillows that pick up the white and the wall color.

As for the ceiling fan, I wouldn't swap it out. You may find once the heat of the summer is fully upon us, you may actually need it.

I agree with cpartist about the ceiling fan. See how it feels in the summer. I also agree that a dark colour would look fabulous but I'm loving the current white so that's my bias. If you're still temped by inspiration pics as above, go for it. Did your landlord say anything about dark colours on walls? It's been a while since I rented and I don't recall if my landlords even allowed me to paint. Don't have a green thumb so no idea if ferns above the bed are a good idea.

My landlord was ok with painting the walls as long as I painted it back to white before I left. I like how plants add so much texture and life to a space so instead of art, I just figured I can wall mount my staghorn fern.

I’ll grab some paint samples to see how they look in the wall vs just leaving it white. I like both ideas and I think either of will work.

Since the room might not be very big an accent colour might not be necessary.

Why not put some large tree plants in a corner that gets good light.

I see you have an air conditioner in the window.... maybe that is why your considering getting rid of the fan.?

chuppi I was initially trying to go for some really moody blues or blue-grays but I can definitely see gray working too! Currently looking for a tallboy dresser and side tables. Something smaller as I do not have much space on either side of the bed.

You could save some bucks if you could DIY bedside tables..

Screwing wooden ledge on to wall or fixing legs to simple wall storage shelves..

Chuppi, those pictures are inspiring me to the walls white as it is just as tartanmeup suggested. I guess I will leave the wall color as it is for now. I can always repaint. Currently hunting for bedside tables. I like the unexpectedness of trunks as a side table but it might be a little bit low for my bed and I don’t know if it will fit since I don’t have much room on either side of my bed. You could also consider painting the same colour as headboard or just the top dark & rest white.

If that nightstand is the right height for your bed, go for it! Nice lines and you can paint it any colour you'd like. Charcoal would certainly work.

Your bed doesn't even have to clear the windows for this type of setup. Check your local CL for drapes...people move and they don't go/fit in the next place...Of course this whole setup depends on what you can find in your budget...

Unfortunately, the night stand doesn’t fit my dimensions :( too short and it’s too wide to fit the space that is between my bed and the bathroom door. Going to hit the thrift stores today to see what I can come up with

Penny, that’s a pretty good idea. I’ve done the bed against the wall before at a different place with good results. I’m thinking of adding light blocking curtains as tartanmeup suggested to soften the room a bit so I think it will look great framed against that.

Our sleep usually benefits from light blocking curtains or shades. :) Hope you find something that makes sense for you, budget and style wise. Do you have an Ikea near you? They have pretty affordable curtain options. Walmart as well.

I was thinking Ikea, too, tartan..the Sarita line tends to be longer and should just come to above the baseboard...If you wanted to go to the ceiling....they have lovely jewel tones, too. Of course, like anything, it all depends on budget.

If there's enough room to do 2 tables on the window wall, that would be better...they don't have to match, either....

Tried to measure the window wall for the bed and I realized, the bed frame would totally cover the air conditioner :( I really do not need bedside storage. Just a spot where I can put my phone to charge and the book that I'm reading. What do you think about this tray table at the bedside instead?

I like this tray but find your current chair more charming.

I like your chair as well but if you need something larger, a tray table is a good idea.

I understand the suggestions for moving the bed under the window but please remember that the window is also a fire escape in case of fire and blocking it may impede you from getting out in case of an emergency. I know it sounds silly, but it is something to consider.

It's not silly at all Kat...it's a good point. The suggestion was based on what little I could see of that wall...there's no photo of it and I had no idea how long it was or how many windows, etc.

Krishna, I like the tray, but won't it be too wide? Give us the width of the bed (which I just love, btw) and the width of the wall it's on...basically asking how much room on either side you have.

Do you want tables on either side? If not, I suggest leaving a bit of room to walk over to the window side to make the bed (I DETEST making a bed that's pushed against the wall...). So if you do that, then how much room do you have for a nightstand?

Penny, here’s a photo of the wall with the windows. The width of the wall that the bed is currently against is 94 in and the bed is 55 in in width. That means that the tables would really have to be slim in profile (up to 20 in in width).

I do not want tables on both sides of the bed as I don’t think I really need them and I don’t have that much room for them. I’m thinking just a plant stand in the corner with the lamp and then a bedside table where the chair is right now.

Katinparadise it’s about 22 inches above the floor. I was looking at that nightstand from IKEA too!

I think it could be a fun, inexpensive option. Especially painted to match your bedroom's aesthetic. It could at least work until the perfect piece comes along and then you may be able to use it elsewhere.

You could mount a sleek shelf on wall behind head board too!

Your headboard as lot of character, you may want to buy a right night stand to make it a set..

but for now you could settle for what you feel is right

I got this little side table off Facebook Marketplace. I like that it has a drawer but the scale seems a bit small. I was thinking about adding a wall sconce above it.

I also purchased these art prints off Etsy. I'm trying to decide whether to put these prints above the bed or doing the hanging planters instead.

The art! Those are fabulous and I could certainly see them above your bed. (Wouldn't the plants be messy?)

ETA: The night table looks fine there. I think a wall sconce would be great as well. If it's easy enough to set up.

They do a few shades of gold and a bit really goes a long way...It's wonderful for all sorts of goodies from lamps to tables...Those of us who thrift LOVE it for achieving a swanky look ;)
