Fantastic! I wouldn't have expected that, either. I'm thrilled the ones I had in a pot from last year over wintered for me in the basement and are growing quickly. I wish yours could talk and tell us how they beat the odds. :-)

I’ve been racking my brain trying to figure out anything special about this spot. I think what I’ve finally landed upon is that maybe it’s because they are located right above a major sewer line for our street. It still seems unreasonable that they would come back , but that HAS to be the special factor.

now I think I need to go plant a long line of zone pushing bulbs in a line across my yard over the sewer...

years ago I had some in a pot..my memory's faded but I'm thinking I brought the pot in over winter but they didn't survive..never had any again until a few days ago..a $3 Lowe's bargain..I'm going to leave them in this pot and try overwintering again..any tips?..

I just bought some from Lowes, too. Bright yellow! Not as good a deal as yours but worth it if they come back. I don't know if I just got lucky, but I brought the pot that was growing on my deck into the basement for the winter. It stays in the 50s with maybe a lower drop if it's really cold outside, into the mid-40s. They were among the pots with cannas that also came back. As soon as it started getting warmer the CL poked up. We'll see how long it takes them to flower again. Of course, the ones I just bought are putting on their show right now having come from a greenhouse.

Did you have constant snow covering? This would have insulated the calla from those extreme temperatures
