I'd send it back. It is not in good conditon and the form is awkward at best and unlikely to be manipulated successfully into what you want unless drastically cut back.

Do you intend to use it for bonsai or just to grow as a small tree ? I collect JM's but do not bonsai and I would never purchase one by mail order sight unseen as the form or shape or habit is one of the most critical features of the tree and I'd prefer to choose the one that appeals to me best. If I did do mail order, I would restrict to Japanese maple specialist nurseries and not FB or Etsy or other anonymous sellers.

Thank you! I purchased 2 different maples, the other one has good form however also with tips looking fried. It's a Jordan, I love the variety so hope to bring it back to good health after re-potting.

I got it from eBay seller acer1987 who has 99.4% positive feedback.
The cost with shipping is actually more expensive than 1 gallon pot size plants from my local nursery (vs the band size here).

Unless you are planning on training it as a semi cascade or windswept Bonsai, I would send it back for a refund...
