I felt like I hit the jackpot this morning when I looked at this UF cascade seedling. It's another one out of Blazing Saddles breeding, and it looks like a lavender Blazing Saddles. You may remember I had a similar seedling out of Blazing Saddles that was a cream lavender. It turned brown in full sun and high temps, so I divided it and sent it to two of our Gardenweb members farther north. The other parent in this cross is amethyst in color. The bloom is a little over nine inches and has heavy substance. The scape is at 33 inches at this point. I would expect it to be taller next year. Bud count is only 7 starting out, but there are four bracts on the scape, so I'm hopeful for the future.

The new red blooming today was out of Red Heartthrob. The bloom that has the look I'm targeting, but the plant under it is wimpy. I hope it improves.

The purple UF out of Perseus' Sandals continue to do well. The scapes are up about an inch after the rain!

The black purple out of Skin of My Teeth and my seedling turned out to have more than 17 buds, Now that they are all visible there are 19 buds. Yay!

The bicolor seedling out of Barbara Mandrell sported two blooms today. The petals are red and the sepals are light orange.

(Sunbear x Julie Newmar #2) x Purple Eyed Dragonfly looks better after a few blooms.

There were two good new ones out of red breeding yesterday. One couldn't open the whole way because it was overcast, and the other got beaten up by the rain.

Lots of keepers so far this season.
