I'm dreading it! It is forecasted to be 100 in our area of Fremont on Monday! I'm nervous about some of the plants that I had planted in the ground out of 4" pots about a week ago. They're in full sun -- maybe I should makeshift some kind of a shade solution for them.

Where I live the challenge is keeping things watered on the over a hundred degree days. I use low water plants but even they need a bit.

It's going to be,, "gettin' kinda hectic", and I'm going to move most things to shade today, maybe water well, but so far I feel fortunate to have had it so cool so far.

Here in Fresno it's already been HOT... and probably will be the rest of the summer. I tried putting lattice over the Pot Farm but that was just an access route for critters to the roof. I have left all the leaves and branches on the tomatoes to help protect from sun scald; have to see if that works at all.

Well,I picked a good time. SF,Oakland set records with 91f and Hayward with 93f..at HAYX right on the bay. I'm pretty sure I saw at least a 95 in town here. Hotter yet to come.

Its ok for a few days. Not sure I could handle a whole summer of that or worse- hot and humid like in Florida or Philippines or the like.

When you are born on the Island of Alameda? Really hot and really cold are not in your DNA- ha.

Hayville here hit 98f and my car on the road an even 100f. Yesterday was a record and today will be one too.

It was 78° here on Monday. Earlier we had "June Gloom", but that might be over for a while.

78-85f are the perfect temps. For people and for gardens.

We set a record with 97f and if they told records for lows, 67f would be one I bet.

San Francisco set a record at 97f and --- get this-- a low of 72!. Eric Burdon is a prophet!

Even much further north of most of you - just outside of Vancouver, BC - we are supposed to be at 32C (90F) tomorrow. Too hot too early!

101f here in Haystack yesterday. Another record hot day. Low was 69f. I kind of like that!..no chilly mornings.

I do enjoy living here most of the year. What I DON'T like is when it's late October and HOT. I just long for those cool, crisp Fall days when pumpkins can be outside your door and not bake.

Me too, Chloe. We think of October as fall, but for us it can be quite hot. By then we've "had it" with the heat.

Northern California takes the win. LA and the surrounding areas are till cooler. Southern CAN is not looking good. Pathetic out days are as cool as Los Angeles. Low 70's- haven't seen a day over 80 yet :(

It's been topsy turvy latey. Los Angeles had set a record of no 70f back in February I think it was.

May was chilly for all California..then 20 days later we were over 100f. Burned plants that usually handle that by now.

It's been pretty seasonal here in San Diego, not too hot, not too cold, lots of morning fog. On the other hand, I found this unexpectedly early little beauty today:

Big Beef. I have sandy soil with nematodes and I can only grow root knot nematode resistant varieties. I'm growing Big Beef, Damsel, and Mountain Magic this season. They're all growing, blooming and setting well. It's going to be a big crop this year. Varieties without that resistance are stunted pretty quickly and don't make it much over 18” in height

I can still see a few of the characteristic root knots when I pull the resistant plants out in the winter, but far, far fewer. While they don't grow as well as they have in other gardens, I have pretty good success. Big Beef has been my "safety" tom for years. I plant it no matter what others I plant.

Usually I get blossom end rot on the first few to ripen, but this one is perfect, if still a tiny bit green.

May killed my tomato planting year..never got around to it. I'm not good with them anyways..always the virus or not enough water. Only one year with some kind of cherry tomato was my high water mark-lol. Like 7 or 8 years ago.

Another wave of warm..mid 80's in rough and tumble Hayward. Hotter locals hotter,Livermore high 90's and cooler locals cooler..SF at 69f.

I see even as far south as TJ..its barely 71f. This whole climate change is mysterious or its just June Gloom for the southland?

This seems like typical June Gloom to me. We had rain both yesterday and today...in the morning. I so enjoy the cooler temps knowing what's coming soon enough!

Yes, we're having June Gloom, and it makes it easier for me to do gardening, as I don't have to worry quite as much about getting sunburned. Plus I do not like working in heat, and by heat, I mean anything over 75°.
