What kind of pool is it? Some pools use a lot of chemicals or are saltwater, and that can have an impact on what plants you may or may not be able to have.

This is a saltwater pool.

Plants shed. It doesn't matter what kind of plant - it happens with any kind of plant at different times. So generally, it is recommended to keep any plants well away from a pool just for cleaning or maintenance issues. And there is also the issue of salt tolerance......a great many plants will not be happy wth any salt water splashed on them. If you intended the red x's to be locations for plants, I think you need to seriously rethink this plan.

I'd also question how easy it would be to do routine maintenance in this area, even with the current higher plantings - it looks extremely narrow and difficult to access except from the pool itself.
