Well, they are robust plants. They grow fairly fast given heat and sun. I overwinter mine in a chilly/cold garage (but frost free), it will drop leaves but comes back in the Spring. Even small ones fruit.

Mine got its first fruit last summer, but I accidentally let the plant dry out too much in winter and it dropped the only fruit. These can be very thirsty plants in containers. This stays in my heated (barely) garage over winter as well.

Same thing happen to me!! This one is always thirsty not like citrus at all! I love mine, in fact I just bought two more guava trees because they are so carefree!

Dave, Wow great looking plant! Thick stem for a small plant, and that's not usually the case. I've heard that a lot on youtube, if given good heat they take a lot of water. I know exotica in Ottawa? or Quebec? had some guava but 6-8 inch plants and they were not cheap .

Has anyone ever gotten them to root from cuttings?

I concur about them being thirsty. I have had massive leaf loss on several occasions due to a missed watering..., but they always refoliate once you get them moist again. They were selling Ruby Red Guava at my local big box store this Spring..., a first.

I really got into tropical fruit trees after seeing a fellow Canadian on youtube with these fruit trees producing like crazy. If you type in DMC DMC greenhouse you'll find him. Not sure where he got all his trees but he has huge collection. It's really something to see!

Heavy water needs..and one good dry will make it abort all flowers or small fruit. I have one in ground and part of me just wants to give up on something that will never be like other large tropicals and have a strong water holding system. I get the feeling no matter how big it gets? I forget to water for a week and its dead. They like rainy climates.

The guava has been growing like crazy. I finally found the little caterpillar that was munchin' on the leaves.

I thought it was supposed to flower....

It's now about 6 feet tall and no blooms. There are about 4 or 5 branches below.

I see one fruit on mine. 6' tall plant 3 years old. I'm so close to digging it out. Plus,its a water hog. I will not be recommending these for the bay area.

Yellow Guavas ? Loaded with small fruit. Go for those.

Matt, the flowers will appeared on the new growth! Guava tree are vey stron grower and looking at your trees it will not be long before you see flowers.

It's grown so much since June!

I planted a Mexican Guava and its just sitting there. It turns brown and then green and never grow. I would love to exchange it for a fig tree i don't have.

They need lots of water Onell. My Pink Guava has small fruit..no chance it will ever ripen over the winter. I'm closer to removing it by the month. I'm close climate wise..but something's not right.

Here is an update on the guava from Oct 15. It's becoming a nice little tree.

Not that bad.

If the fruits are not too sweet...Guava's seem to get better by the year. A bigger root system will do that. For you,a bigger pot and some rich potting soils will help for next year.
