one of 3 "entrances" to the east woods..Golden Tiaras will be moved to the left to mirror the ones on the right..the logs aren't finished..some need a trim..they need to be "set"..we'll loosen the soil and push them down a little..there's more logs that aren't in this area yet..not many more to put in place..I love the structure telling you where to walk..that pile of bark will be cut/broken up and dropped on the path..the paths need more leaf litter/organic matter to keep down the mud..clausa planted yesterday..First Frost planted yesterday..I don't normally have slug problems..is this slugs?..ugh..I saw a pair of rabbits sitting together last week but they were eating weeds..

Interesting that bricks will work as a squirrel barricade. I wouldn't think that would stop them.

sandyslopes..thanks!..I should've said in the post that we did the work the day before I took the pics..(I hate that Houzz won't let us edit/delete our own post whenever we want)..believe it or not those bricks are heavier than rocks..I've tried both..squirrels have occasionally reached over the bricks but the digging was minimal..whereas without bricks they really make a mess..I guess I need to research slugs..I've never done a thing to repel them..

Beth..thank you!..this isn't the average city lot..very little grass..originally lots of trees with high canopies and not much privacy..so we planted understory trees, shrubs and then lots of perennials..I tried to define the paths for easy navigation..our work has transformed this place..

That's some property you have there. I also think "park" when I look at your pictures. So if I want to have a walk in a wood-like atmosphere, I have to travel to a park. You don't! I love the rocks. I think that is something I need to add to my garden. Love the logs too! Keep up the good work! You've done a lot in all the years you have been there!

newhostalady..thanks!..I love our setting..it's very quiet and shady..I think rocks are beautiful..and they're maintenance free lol..that's what I loved about my owl..the owl is sitting by some Fire Islands..I was in a rush and put it there but that could change..where's yours?..

It has obviously been a labour of love over the years nw! I know how satisfying your latest round of work must feel. When it is your own yard you sometimes only see what needs to be done but I have only ever seen a thoughtfully managed beautiful space.

Only a non gardener would think that a skilled eye and hand had not created the paradise that you have! Truly lovely!

peren..thank you!..I love your garden too..your plants are beautiful..this is a big space for a SLOW gardener to improve and maintain..it DID feel overwhelming when I started..but I feel in control now..paths are established..my plants have grown..it's been emotionally rewarding..gardening sure keeps all of us busy doesn't it?..

Kathy..thank you!..clever of you to notice that the paths are wide!..that WAS a deliberate decision..I've said this before but I love this quote..an English garden writer said "I hate a path that feels pinched"..I agree!..you're so right that wheelbarrows, wagons, hand trucks, wheeled trash cans, garden chippers etc roll right down my paths and it's great..both of us have mature trees and I think we use equipment more than most people..I would love more privacy that a bigger property like yours offers..but I don't think I could take on more than what I have now..or is it easier because you can leave it natural?..it's way too large to cultivate all of it..
