Fru Dagmar does have very elegant blooms, beautiful photos of a great rose. I like the clove fragrance of the rugosas.

The Reeve's foliage looks very nice, it will look wonderful in bloom. The tall purple companion flower has a unique bloom shape and lovely color. What is the name of it?

Krista, I wonder if that's a flowering garlic.

I'm probably the only person in the world who doesn't admire Fru Dagmar, but there always has to be one outlier who doesn't get with the program. I'm looking forward to admiring the flowers of The Reeve soon.

I do admire Fru for cold climates. Here, it would look really washed out.

Krista, I forgot to mention the lovely fragrance. When Fru is in full bloom, you smell it all around the front of the house.

The tall purple bloom is an ornamental onion, Allium hollandicum, I think. The foliage is already on its way out while it blooms, and later it has very nice seedheads. I have to cut those before the seeds are ripe, for I don’t want any more. But I would not want to be without them.

Ingrid, why? Because it is washed out for you, or because of something else?

Krista, I've only seen it in southern California and it's quite possible that it's not at its best here. This area is not exactly rugosaville, and I'm afraid that my Wild Edric has spoiled me for the paler, more delicate beauties. On the other hand I really liked Schneezwerg which is a semidouble white, so go figure.

It's funny how Fru Dagmar Hastrup dodoedoes poorly in California but is pretty amazing here in Australia, didn't bat at eye when temps were sitting around 45c/113f for about a week in the middle of summer. Possibly related to humidity or something, assume california is very low humidity in summer. A lot of other roses just burnt and lost all their leaves.

I never said Fru did poorly in heat, just that the flower color seemed washed out for our area. I'm really impressed with how well the rugosas are doing in heat.

Krista, I'd love to see your Purple Pavement when it flowers. The color looks wonderful in every photo I've seen.
