Do you think you could supply a straight on picture of the house without the camera being at grass level? The distortion is too great for trying to supply you with a perspective of the portico.

1. IMO the color of your home is to contrasting for the paint used on the quoins. I would suggest you lighten the color of the home. See below..

2. Your solution for the front is to NOT add a portico to the face of the house which is going to look like an add on, but to recess your door so there is a place to step under during inclement weather. If you have the space you could recess the door 5 feet into your foyer.

If you don't have the space, consider recessing the door a few feet and then add small roof detail like you see below to provide addition protection from the elements.

This entrance below is also recessed and has a subtle distinction between the walls and the quoins.

I love the idea of recessing the door but there is only 6 feet of space inside the foyer before a staircase, so for that reason (and our budget - this was to be less than $2000 when we thought we were just replacing glass ) it's not feasible. I do really love the white house with shutters and very small overhang - any further ideas along that vein?

Also our home sits on a hill so unless I use a drone, that's the best view from the front.

Reduce contrast with trim and quoins for starters. Paint them two shades lighter than body. It will be challenging to get double door in existing door and sidelight space. I would just replace with similar door and sidelights or next size wider door and smaller side lights then consider putting a decorative awning over front door area. Maybe copper or iron and glass look would work with your style home.

We just painted the house! I love it! Clearly I'm not a designer but the colors will remain as they are. It matches with a cute shed on the side of the house.

Change the door now and save for a portico. I don't think the Victorian glass inserts go with the house.

Whenever you outline the corners of a house with a bright contrasting paint color, you make it look boxy. Changing the quoins will make your house look large and classic, rather than like a caricature of a classic home. I think a flat roofed portico that hangs from the band of stucco would make for a more classy entry.
