I can't give up our space, although the orchids do take up quite a bit of it, I wouldn't be able to do that as no one could get out!

I'm thinking of a pergola outside to give more shade/space for my orchids.

Thanks Jane. The south side and the south half of the top has 50% shade cloth. And a few have modest sunburn. They mostly like it. I had 25%. It was not enough. A pergola would be a fun project...

Harvey, truly impressive. I am so envious. It seems you like to use the wooden baskets! Do you grow any on pots? I am assuming in your area the orchids in those pots hanging fare better? Very nice

For me, many potted plants live in a hanging wooden basket. All pots are terra cotta. All potting material is red lava rock. That combination allows me to water daily. Typically what happens in nature. The plants are potted and clipped on the medium not in it. Not all orchids like this. I have many mounted on cork or mounted on trees in my yard. So I don't grow bulbos, phals, paphs, phrags to name a few. They like to grow in the medium. And will not like my culture. Because the menu of orchids is large I grow the ones that like my culture. Cats, vandas, dens, brassicas, brassavolas, encyclias, epis.
