Re-upholstering Stickley

I'm pursuing reupholstering Stickley Prairie furniture...a Settle and 2 chairs. It's impossible to re-sell and it was $$$ when I purchased it. Not the spindle style but rather a solid style as can be seen in the photo. I want it to look contemporary for a gray/cream scheme...would love thoughts on doing this. I've attached a photo to see the style

OMG! Those pieces are beautiful!! I wonder if reupholstering will devalue them?

IMO a new upholstery that works in your space is a good idea.

I would have it done in a heartbeat. Here's a site with lots of fabrics on Stickley. You may get ideas. fabrics You may consider a leather too.

We have the same settles (couch and loveseat) in leather, and it's held up amazingly well over the 13 years we've had them. We just condition with a leather conditioner every couple of months. I'll bet you could have it done through Stickley if you still have a local store near you. I think they have a caramel leather that's classic and would go nicely with a more contemporary gray/cream color scheme. Or maybe something even lighter such as this chair on Chairish.

What about reupholstering the leather on my spindle chairs to be outside?

Would love to see what you decided. I will be doing the same on our settle in the next year.

I still haven't decided! I've gone back and forth so many times between leather and fabric and I have at least ruled out leather. I feel it will be too "cold" with leather. I'm narrowing it down to a solid and may button tuft the seat cushion. I'll post when I do it.

Gino - Where did you get your rug? I've been looking for one like it. Does it shed a lot, or have any quality issues? I hope you don't mind a question unrelated to your sofa. I'm looking forward to seeing what you end up choosing for the sofa! I love Stickley prairie furniture. I'm terrible at picking upholstery. I'd have no idea what color to do with cherry (I guess it's cherry). If you're looking at cool colors, I think a bluish-gray might look nice, or a charcoal. Cream would look great, but shows dirt.

I get all of my rugs inexpensively on wayfair or overstock. Kids..dog. They are all easy to clean. No shedding bc they are synthetic. A good pad underneath. Hope that helps.

We have the same settle, but the fabric was a green, black, and beige swirl. When we move several years ago, we purchased Stickley fabric and had it reupholstered. We weren’t happy with it 😭, so ended up purchasing new cushions from Stickley in a beige/cream which cost almost as much as the original settle. Hopefully it will last as long as we do, or vice versa.

Just curious what did you decide? My settle (same as your different fabric) is 30 years old and I am planning to get it reupholstered by Stickley. I know it will probably cost more but afraid of ruining it if I have someone else do it. Also have a few water stains on arms maybe could all be restored.

@sheebles that came out gorgeous! You’ve given me inspiration 💕

sheebles beautiful! Great fabric choice. Cheers to another 30 years! :) Where did you buy the rug? Does it seem to be durable? I need rugs for several of rooms.

Approximately how many yards of fabric did it take to recover your sofa?

Looks lovely! What was the approximate cost for the job? and did you get it done at Stickley or somewhere else? We have a loveseat and are considering reupholstering. steam cleaning doesnt seem to get rid of the dirt and grime and it’s looking dinghy.

Nice. I also have a Stickley settle and I know that it will out live me and probably still be in use 50 or even 100 years from now. When I look at the under stuffed bean bags made by the likes of RH that are sold as sofas today I wonder why people waste their money.
