Yes, those are aphids. There are many species of aphids, by the way, and they can be observed in a very wide range of colors.

Thank you very much for the confirmation. Online suggestions for dealing with aphids always include washing them off with water as they are unlikely to return to the same plants. That has never worked for me. They're always back the next day.

More effective is direct hits of insecticidal soap, diluted according to directions.

I actually also use neem oil, and have used Bug b gon on ornamentals. Same result. I am going to try fruit tree spray with neem and pyrethrins tonight after the bees are gone. I’ve also ordered some green lacewings and ladybugs, and bought marigolds and petunias. Aphids are not my friends.
