Well if Speed Queen would put a an onboard heater in their front loaders I might consider one, but they won't for their U.S. models. I won't have a front loader without a heater. I think it's an abomination to own a front loader that does NOT have a heater in it.

There was someone here who reported a similar problem, I think it was last year or maybe a bit longer ago The anchor bolts for one of the concrete weights attached to the outer tub (what you call the "liner") on her Duet broke loose and cracked the tub open. I don't recall if her unit was in warranty but she contacted WP and was given monetary credit to choose a new machine, and WP fetched hers to investigate what happened.

Dadoes, that would be amazing! I have been in touch with Whirlpool and they are looking into it, will write an update when I hear back.

It was Mamapinky0s Duet that exploded and yes it were out of warranty.

As dadoes says whirlpool did good by her and she got a new machine.

This is not a new thing about these washers cracking/exploding. Just google and search youtube.

If they give you money will you buy another Whirlpool or get another brand? I agree that a heater is required especially if you live in a colder climate. Also if you have a long run from your water heater you might not be getting the warm to hot wash you think you are.

So, the first step is that they are sending someone out and covering parts an labor. An excellent step in the right direction. I will post more after the repair visit.

Ugh!!!!! The technician called me and said they never sent him the pictures and it will be another two weeks to get the part, and I still don’t know what happened because he didn’t even set foot in my house!!!!!! The machine could still be totally unrepairable because the guy didn’t even come out to run diagnostics. I just called them and told them this is ridiculous, and they offered me $50 for the cost of the laundromat.
I paid $1000 for this machine three years ago, it cracked in half and now even if it’s fixable, it’s going to be 3 weeks. Never again with whirlpool.

And...I have to dispose of the giant drum if that’s the part that’s wrong!!!!

$50 will cover one week's worth laundry at the laundromat in our area. Very disappointing.

Cavimum, exactly! I spent $50 last week, and now I will be doing the same for the next two weeks, plus losing 2-3 hours of my summer Saturday’s. First world problems, I know, but they could have credited me, and I would have a new machine in days. A $1000 machine should last more than three years without breaking in two.

Let's not forget dragging all the dirties in and the cleans back home. Ugh. I am sorry this happened to you. It happened to me more times than I care to remember. It's a hassle, especially when you paid big $$$ for a washing that is sitting at home broken.

I clean all heavy items, an example being a huge and thick comforter, at the laundromat. I did a batch today so I could put them away till winter and it cost over $50.00. The washing machines cost $7..25 a load and the dryers are even more expensive.. I needed 3 washing machines, for a total of $21.75 for them alone, not counting the dryers.

Jcorn, yup! $50 last week and $50 this week...I think I need to go into the coin laundry business!

Sammy, nope. The warranty is only a year! We are 3.5 years in with normal use.

@Momofthree Ma: How did this end up getting resolved? Also, is the 4.5 cu. ft capacity sufficient for a king-size duvet? I’m currently into my second week without a washing machine because I can’t decide on a replacement for my Whirlpool Cabrio!

They fixed it, but it took 6 weeks. I would not buy a whirlpool again, but yes it is big enough for a duvet cover, for the insert I would go to a laundromat, not worth the wear and tear on your personal machine.

@Momofthree Ma, glad they fixed it. When you need a new one, get a top loading Speed Queen. Best washing machine (and dryer) I ever owned. :)
