Oh my gosh! I just planted one in a back corner of my garden. I knew they got big, but that's enormous!! What a beauty though. I just love the leaf pattern.

I know they say fall or spring are the ideal times to move hostas, but I've moved a couple in the middle of a hot summer and they were fine. I just kept it well watered. They are pretty resilient plants.

Such a beautiful hosta . I would think Liberty wins the race of the best of the best, I bought 3 and might just have to move it so I can see them from my back deck instead of behind the waterfall. Such a lovely color

Thanks Rouge and Patti. I might move my Liberty hostas - I have 3 of them - now and just keep them well watered. We've had SO much rain this year, that I should be ok. Rouge, btw, your JMs are stunning!

Beautiful Liberty hostas everyone! Liberty is one of my top 3 favorites.

We all know Chris, From Hallson's, right? And we know how knowledgeable he is about hostas. And he says on his site "This plant and its relatives send down very deep roots so water deeply and do not disturb them once planted." After reading that, I took his advice and never moved my Liberty. It took 4 years before I said "wow!" But worth it! So I have bought another one this year---still in a pot.

newhostalady, sounds like us that considered moving them should just get some more . I would hate to set mine back. They have about 6 or so shoots each and this is the 4th year also Chris must know, He also stated .. We also find that by burying the crown 2 to 3" deep in very well-aerated soil this hosta tends to develop much faster.

Almosthooked, I just wanted other hosta lovers to really consider whether they need to move their Liberty. We don't want to set our plants back.

I noticed Chris's other comment too, about burying the crown deeper. I always thought mine was too deep and wished I had planted it shallower. But it all worked out fine for mine. It's one of those hosta that take their time to grow. But when they reach that certain point---they're fabulous!

I agree with NHL’s comments. My Liberty came into its own at the four-year mark but this year it is spectacular! It is under a 3 yr-old Japanese Maple and a bit crowded but displaying the largest leaves so far. The only reason for moving it would be when I move. Jujen is its close neighbour and both seem very happy in their location. Liberty is in my top 10 and vieing for top honours!
