This is the first year I applied 2 apps of prodiamine, first when the soil temp was 55 then again when it was 70 degrees.

Zero crabgrass.

Should I apply prodiamine now to stop any further germination? I can deal with existing with Drive XLR8 if it gets out of hand.

You certainly can if you don't need to overseed! As long as you don't pass the recommended maximum amounts for your grasses, there's no problem.

Thanks! I was so close to doing just that but I read that if the roots are deep enough on new seedlings I can damage them. Just to see how much of a PITA it would be I went out this AM and pulled most of the crabgrass. It was pretty easy. I would prefer to just do that and overseed in late August. Then pre emergent in the spring with another overseed.

Post the third mow or so, the roots are deep enough that you don't need to worry about damage from pre-emergent or from herbicides. Pre-emergents actually only work on very short, young roots...and not completely reliably even then.

Ok, well, I just did my first mow so I am two to three weeks away so I guess i'll just deal with it later and keep pulling.

Dimension has some post-emergence activity on young crabgrass so would be the pre-emergent of choice in your case.

If he's first mow, I'd hold off, though. The grass is a bit young for pre-emergents, particularly as it enters its first summer. Desiccation isn't the ideal state for baby roots. :-)

But there's no reason not to spot eradicate with Weed B Gon Plus Crabgrass Control. It'll damage the very young grasses, but since the crabgrass will choke them out, well...
