@jmm1837 we are getting them from Home Depot and went there and looked at the samples they had. The one we liked had a larger sample about 2feet by 2 feet and we loved it. When I googled the countertop I found some unliked and some I hated of the same stone. I know the stones vary, but that’s causing me to have a hard time deciding.

I'll second what's already been said: You must go to the stoneyard and choose for yourself. You might see 4-5 slabs of the same stone, but one of them will be nicer (or worse) than the others. These are one-of-a-kind items made by nature, and you must put in the work yourself to get a genuinely wonderful countertop.

Do y’all know if you can pick the slab when going through Home Depot?

I would not get stone counters through Home Depot. A number of bad stories on this forum from people who did that. Selection is poor, they don’t let you see anything more than tiny samples, they don’t let you go to the template layout at the fabricator’s, and the installation isn’t very good because the subcontractor hasn’t much skin in the game - it’s Home Depot’s name on the project, not his. And, if you have issues, you are dealing with an enormous corporation, and your little job is as important to them as you’d imagine.

Don't go through Home Depot .. all they do it outsource the work themselves. I had granite and hated it, switched to Quartz. Quartz has a lot of new selections now and wouldn't vary as much as Granite

We had granite installed by Home Depot and had a good experience. We were allowed to go to the stone yard and see the slab that they had ordered for us. Prior to that, the sent us pictures, so we had plenty of opportunity to say we didn't want it. On the other hand, we were Not allowed to see the slab in advance when we ordered quartz also from Home Depot.

For granite, it depends on the coloration of the material that is being mined now. The pictures you see online and the samples in Home Depot may be from a run a number of years ago which is no longer available. That is actually one of the questions we had when they first sent us pictures of the slab that they had.

Do NOT get stone from HD. You'll pay a premium for no good reason. Go find a good fabricator and ask them which stone yard they use.

@dovetonsils I am so glad to hear that! We got a Home Depot renovation loan, so using Home Depot is out only option! I have had a great experience so far and am currently waiting on pictures of the exact slabs that I would get if I ordered them!
