Minimum Specific Size for Kitchen Island...

that has a 30” sink CENTERED with a dishwasher to the side. I was hoping to do a 6’ wide x 4’ depth island with a large sink centered on the 6’ ... but I got thinking that the dishwasher is 24” wide and that probably won’t allow for a large centered sink and the space required between the DW and sink.

I’ve read everything and cannot get a clear answer on this.

What is the minimum width of an island that can contain this? There will be chairs on the opposite side so I was thinking about 18” overhang out of the 4’ depth.

Width: 24+24 (20/21"sink)+24+side panels (support).

Depth: about 27/28" (cabinets+plumbing+panel) plus let's say 12" for bar use or 16" for dining.

80"x40" is nicely balanced. How wide will your aisles be on all 4 sides? And is there a fridge on a side? A stove across?

I would not center the sink. I'd have the sink more towards one side or the other, so that you have more of an uninterrupted expanse of counter. It will make your island appear larger and function larger if you don't have something in the center breaking it up.

You need a 33” base for the sink 25 1/2” for the DW (24” DW+ 1 1/2” end panel with attached filler) plus a minimum of 18” landing space to the other side of the sink. Which is very small. Prep space needs more like 36” to the side of a sink, not 18”. But 18” is the minimum. Add in the overhand on the counter, and you are at a 79.5” island for length. Minimum width when you’ve got a sink or something used in the island should be at least 30”. That’s the bare minimum, and you’ll have water rolling off the back if you are messy.

You really dont have room for a main sink sink in the island if you’re talking minimums for everything.

What kind of sink? An under mount in a 30"width will need a 36 inch cabinet/ sink base. A DW next to it is another 24 inches. A trash pull. left of the sink means another 18 inches. You're at a total of 78 inches,....: ) before it is topped

Where's your kitchen PLAN with all cabinets, appliances and clearances/dimensions.? To center a sink means a more generous7/ 8 foot island, usually.
