the general smart advice for new home occupants is to wait...live there at least 6 mo and then begin planning based on more knowledge and experience. this is to your benefit. It is clean and more than adequate to use. there are things that will be important long term and those need to part of a budget to renovate...1. replace microwave with hood that vents 2. evaluate fridge configuration in terms of opening doors against wall 3. island possibilities vs removal and the reconfiguration of entire space. I can see off hand that possible wrapping the 3 walls for a U kitchen might be best...so adding a barrier wall as you mention might not be wise. its hard to know right now. You really are well served by waiting and no I wouldn't alter anything for the short term. It is fine for what it is at this early stage of possession.
