I have had to haphazardly place some barriers to deter a tenant’s unsupervised dog from trampling through. I could not save Rainforest Sunrise from a cat though.

When I returned from my Middle East trip I was greeted back home by high, unmowed grass, weeds galore, and dog urine burn marks all over the lawn. BUT, the hostas were glorious!! When I left May 17th they were still pipping and when I returned June 10th there was hosta foliage everywhere! :}

Glad you enjoyed looking, thank you Steve! Nothing beats allowing a hosta to grow to maturity in one spot, I’ve found out! The majority are overcrowded due to fast-paced accumulation and lack of real estate but when you’re a collector, what are you gonna do? Lol

I'm sure there was some fun plant material to check out on your trip, but it must have been a real thrill to come home and see all that lush hosta greenery on your home turf! They look great!

They're beautiful!! I also lost almost all of mine about 3-4 years ago. I was devastated. I had to start over. I've been slowly getting back into it. Climate change has weather all wonky so it's been a learning curve again. Last year, I didn't really find anything. So, I focused more on flowers. This year, due to heavy rains, flowers pretty much drowned and I am finding all kinds of beautiful rescue Hostas!

So glad these are doing so well for you. Beautiful, just beautiful!

Josephine your gardens are absolutely beautiful. With such beauties you grow it is well worth enlarging and drooling over all of your beauties. I was going to start complimenting on some and then realised they all look as good as each other . You must have had someone tending your gardens or you have worked your butt off getting it in shape again. Spectacular comes to mind. Wondered where you had disappeared too. You always have such great pictures

I just realized now that I had not seen any posts from you. Also glad you are back. Your hostas as all have noted are magnificent!! I don’t see any weeds—-come to my yard for those. I am interested to know the name of the little blue and white streaked slightly undulating hosta down in the right corner of the top two pictures.Need that one!

Steve, no hostas in Dubai, sadly! I went so far as to email Fransen in Europe to see if they ship to Dubai but they do not. I was going to experiment to see if they would grow there...even as an annual. My daughter lives there and has a nice space where I wanted to plant them.

Wow, benign neglect worked well. I didn't see a defect anywhere. Dubai, I'm jealous. Turkey was my only stop in the Mideast. Hardly a comparison. Doggone.

zKathy, I’m following your sage advice ;) and have a Belgian Moon, a citrus beer, handy for a reward!

Brandy, you understand how hosta losses can be devastating-it boggles my mind not just about the money that has been lost, but all those losses were significant in that they were so healthy and anything but puny when I purchased them. In my snow belt zone, it is important to tip pots over for the winter so when we have thaws and freezes, they don’t rot. I failed to do so and could have saved myself the heartache.

Faye, no, the gardens were on their own but I was lucky that our May this year was rather coolish and wet so the hostas did well on their own. No heat wave to fry them as in past years in May.

djacob, the blue and white hosta you admired is Ivory Queen. She does her own thing, lol. I have seen pics of some where the white centre is more pronounced, but mine seems to have a misty thing going on, with slashes of white here and there. Every leaf is different. Interesting!

Hi Jo! Nice to "see" you here again. It certainly looks like these hostas (you took a picture of) made up for your losses. Bridal Falls and Brother Stefan stand out for me. Hopefully we will "see" more of you now.

Well, my family and I are doing our European vacay in mid-August starting with Germany... will be visiting where I lived as a child (on my bucket list). I have no idea of your proximity but we will be in Frankfurt, Heidelberg, until the 16th then Dortmund until the 18th. Then we are off to Lake Cuomo and Milan till the 25th before returning home. I wonder if George and Amal grow hostas??? I will let you know ;-) Yes, I Dream l a r g e! LOL

Jon, I really am enjoying your pictures. You were undertaking new planting projects last year that we followed and it’s exciting to see the results of all that labour! You have an interesting gardening vision on a perfect woodsy lot and I am ever curious to see what you do next! Your hostas are beautifully kept and are huge regardless of the number of divisions. The leaves appear to all be large and luscious!

I’ve been out since before 7 a.m. getting recycling out and after a quick ride to Tim Horton’s for breakfast, the kitty and I enjoyed it in the backyard... and we are still here, lol. Gave me a chance to catch up on replies to my post. I’ve taken more pics for posting at another time.

It's the second hot and dry summer in a row and the hosta are suffering...the Valley's look good so far given the problems with heat and stormy winds. The good thing is that I haven't seen a slug or snail so far...

HI Jo. Thanks for the invitation to stop by at your home when I am visiting my friend. Unfortunately my friend and I don't visit each other at our homes too often. Instead we tend to meet somewhere in between! That way we tend to meet more often and each of us doesn't have to do the long drive! We're just getting too old for the drive and the traffic! LOL
