You want the 100K opening into your house that still will let bugs fly in? Plus humidity that will not be kept out?

It's really never used in homes, only in commercial or institutional settings because of the cost and the fact that the results don't meet homeowner needs. Hey, I used to live in Minnesota, I know what a screen door looks like on a summer evening - plastered with insects to where it's near opaque. If anything, I'd go the other direction - an airlock to keep bugs out of the house, where you go through 2 screen doors. Even one mosquito has ruined many a night's rest.

Maybe also try balancing lighting after dark - outdoors brighter away from house, indoors as dark as can be - to reduce the attraction of insects to the house.

Air curtains are more of a commercial type thing. Think grocery store where there is a constant flow of people going in and out. An air curtain in this sense makes the otherwise constant open entry and exit doors more energy efficient by minimalizing the amount of outdoor air that can get in.

BUT, for a residential home I think you will find the cost of such would not be worth it or practical for a long list of reasons. (housing requirements for the blower, ducting pathway etc.) If you don't hide it, then you have a hideous looking thing above the door way. Noise is another concern.

I appreciate the input from everyone. I don't believe these does are something we'll leave open often, but more on the special occasion of having guests over. maybe we'd just be better screening in the patio. then we could use these doors without the curtains. just get a good bug zapper then. guess I gotta think through it some more. guess I don't want to give up on the dream yet.

I think the screened in patio would be a good idea and then you could have the doors open more often. We have a three season sun room and in the summer the sliding glass door to the sun room is open 24 /7.

Would it be possible to screen the patio with screens that can be zipped open and rolled, and only rolled down and zipped closed when you wish to use the doors open? Then you’d have the view otherwise.

screens on 3 season rooms are predictable and do a good job. I am really wanting something different and unique that works. I think it would be really awesome to be able to open your house up when guests are over or family is visiting.

I almost bought a house that had a covered deck, with an accordion window wall. the screen was motorized into the ceiling over the deck and sealed up pretty well - essentially opening up the entire back wall into a screened area.

It took a deck that was tucked "into" a u-shape, and where the second floor projected out over the first - but it was really cool. Good planning and excellent indoor / outdoor feel with a ton of versatility.

Depending upon the space these doors are adjacent to, why not just close the adjoining interior doors to limit the airflow in and out of the house. You could then zone your HVAC so that you won’t be heating or cooling the exposed area. This won’t help with bugs, though. Of course you could stock up on those tennis racket looking bug zappers- they’re lots of fun.

Can you comment on the model of the air curtain and how loud it is?
