I should add that I purchased these shearling chairs in white. 6 of them. They haven’t arrived yet, but my initial plan was always a settee. But couldn’t find one with the right length (most were too short at 54”). Should I stick with these chairs or modify from 6 to 4 (or some other number, configuration dependent)?

Oh. Well, you made my point on settees. Those chairs are interesting but wow they would be rough for using around food. The style is fine but not sure they would work. If you only used them twice a year fine. But if more often, you need something much more durable. Any kids?

The existing light fixture will be replaced, so that will brighten up the space a little more too.

Flo - I think the pictures don’t quite do the room justice. It’s wider than it is long. We were hoping that this orientation will allow for easy conversation across the room to the family room, especially with 3 little ones in tow.

With 3 little ones you need leather chairs. Can you post room dimensions and size of table. That will help. I love the navy and white looks really pretty.

Here are similar chairs but in faux leather. Easier to keep clean with little ones yet still pretty. Super good price and when the kids get older you can replace with no regrets.

I can send room dimensions when I’m home; can’t recall off the top of my head (though I’ve measured enough times!).

The light fixture will be bronze-ish, likely some where b/w the color of the table legs and the wall mirror.

The salesperson at the store convinced me on the chairs, saying they were a performance fabric .... though sadly, I didn’t test it myself.

Shelly, may I offer that a chair or two might lend nice touch in other room, or hall or bedroom too?

Ooh, I love those options everdebz!! Oh yeah, the pink reading chair is staying. We love that one! The general color scheme for both rooms is navy, white and pink. Was hoping for coral-ish chairs. Is that too much?

A rug offers direction with its own palette of colors - can you show rug close up?

Can we see a photo of the entire adjacent room? You mention a navy sofa. Is the chair i see in the room coral? What about the rugs? What colors are in the rugs? What what is the measurement between the legs of the table? Or are they far enough in to not effect the length of the settee? Besides being mindful of navy what colors are through out your home?

With mirror/ new light -- a direction like this? and your rug in LR?

I have to explore - my nature - this would bring the major blue over to living area.... something like it.

Sorry, I’m not able to send current pics at the moment. But, the rug has specks or burnt orange and a muted marigold yellow. Hope that helps!

Has similar light/dark contrasts as DR rug, and possibly its ochre-type color. But faded edges seem almost coral softer ---

Thanks everdebz - These are really great rug choices! Wish I had see them sooner, but I’m really happy with my existing rugs. The one is the adjacent room is a white shag, and has proven quite durable (surprisingly!).

This bench can be done in 72”. Here are some mixed seating ideas. settee on far side of table upholstered chairs on ends and woven chairs opposite settee.. same formula for all . I am guessing on colors here until we can see the rugs and you can tell us what colors you’re working with.

Some really great ideas here. We await measurements and more photos when you are able.

If you have orange something like this burnt orange leopard print (a zebra or a solid would work to) mixed in with the texture of the rattan and the solid white end chairs against the navy and bring in a gold more modern linear chandelier would look great. Orange and navy are beautiful together.

Three types of seating at one table, especially when there is a patterned rug and molding details is much too busy imo. The bench seating also doesn't allow you to pull it out to sit and push it in be the right distance from the table, so someone is scooting in awkwardly. I think you can use upholstered chairs on the ends, if you have room for it, and different ones on the sides. But from the photo it looks like you don't have room for chairs on either end. The legs of the chairs need to stay on the rug when they are pulled out to sit down. In that case, just use four chairs on each side of the table, and leave the ends open.

Table needs to be turned, easy enough. Not so easy, it looks like your rug is the wrong size for the table (or Vice Versa).

You want to be able to pull back your chair when getting up from table and have all four legs remain on the rug.

Table legs are 10” offset from the width.

Turn the table so it runs parallel to the large windows, the longest side of the room. You've got enough room for three chairs on each side of the table. If you must have seating for eight you can squeeze in four per side, but they would need to be narrow chairs, and it would be tight.

Is the long wall the wall with the double windows? If so, the table should be turned to run along that length. Then I would find a broadloom carpet you like and have it cut and bound to a size that leaves about 12” all around walls. Approximately 9’-4” square. This would leave a fairly nice chair push back. A good carpet store has people who cut and place binding on the rug. Many good looks are available and very competitively priced versus rugs of comparable materials.
