accent wall color

This is my friend's first new home. She painted the accent wall and isn't loving it. I like it and looking for suggestions to make her love it. She is willing to paint furniture and replace bedding.

I’m not loving it either but then again I don’t love accent walls. I don’t know what look she’s going for but the room looks dark and dreary to me. I’d start by getting very light colored linens and light colored opaque drapes, then add colorful art over the bed.

The color is too strong and too dark and the bedding is simply not interesting.

I would paint the accent wall the same color as the others. I would get solid cutains the color of the walls, which look white.

Don't paint the furniture. It is a LOT of work done properly.

Different view and lighting. I can’t help but think off-white on some of the pieces and lighter bedding would work. And definitely a larger piece above headboard?

If wanting to keep an accent wall, I would add solid drapes in the wall color to the outer edges of the sheers. New lighter brighter print pattern bedding including the wall color and introducing other color accents.

Maybe place the dresser on the left side of the bed. Her up lamp on the dresser. Move the open shelving in the current dresser space. If there is space, move the low end table to the right side of the bed. Open the room by moving the cedar chest under the window.

Spray paint the current art frames in the wall color, maybe group them on one wall and moved down lower. One larger artwork over the bed and lower placement. Remove the small wall sconces. (I think she will like her room more)

I would let go of the idea of "making her love it" and focus on figuring out a solution she does like, even if it means repainting the wall. So the first step is to figure out what it is she doesn't like about it. Too bold? Too dark? Doesn't like the color combination with the bedding? How does she feel about the current bedding (is she more attached to it than the turquoise, or vice versa)? What mood does she want for the room?

If she like the bedding but not the paint, spend some time with the imaging tools that the major paint manufacturers offer. She can try out different paint colors (subject to the color accuracy of her monitor) with her existing bedding. If she likes the idea of turquoise but not that turquoise, she could try a less saturated color. Colors often seem more bold on a wall (because of the size) than they do on the swatch, so I usually choose something a bit more muted than I think I want to compensate.

If she likes the paint but not how it looks with the bedding, the room would be transformed with white bedding. Right now the combination of the bedding and turquoise wall reads Southwest style to me; with white bedding it would read more coastal.

I kind of like the bold turquoise paint and Southwest vibe (I guess it's just you and me in that camp). My least favorite thing about the room is the paint color on the non-feature wall. It could be the lighting, but it seems wrong for the bedding and slightly off with the turquoise.

Bedding is the main determiner of wall color, so start there. If she isn't crazy about the bedding that is probably where she made her first mistake. Fall in love with the bedding and the walls will be sorted out.

I like the turquoise accent wall too, however, if your friend doesnt, then it needs to be changed. Its not important that others might like, she is the one that needs to like it. The whole room, doesnt look put together. It looks a bit mish mash. A larger picture over the bed would be good. One panel of a curtain on the windows, looks silly. Its a nice size room, it just needs to be pulled together.

BedroomsHeres a link with 41 bedrooms in turquoise. If she loves that color then white and pale yellow bedding would look yummy.https://www.thesleepjudge.com/turquoise-bedroom-ideas/

I think white bedding and white sheer curtains at 3-4 times the width of what she has now would make a huge difference. I would relocate the stuff over the bed and move along the bookcase if she can do without it.
