Window Confusion

Hi everyone,
I have spent way too much time debating over windows and still super confused.

Few details,

  1. looking for black on black windows for a modern farmhouse without any grills.
  2. Given that, we narrowed down to Andersen 100 and Marvin Integrity
  3. The quotes we got for our windows are $11k for the 100s and $14k for the Integrity
  4. They are mix of casements and gliders (casements in the front and kitchenand gliders in the back)
  5. To go all casements will be another $2k on either brand
  6. My window shop was suggesting that Marvin’s gliders are not good and tougher to operate

We also have a 12ft by 8ft patio door. We are debating saving some $s with Andersen and spending up to get the LaCantina doors.

Given this, are the Marvins that much better to warrant spending up $3-4K?

We live in NorCal, and the home is a few million $s (almost all homes in this area are in that range)

Thank you WoW - appreciate the feedback. Most of our windows at 6ftx4ft. There is a fairly large living room window that needs onsite mulling (it is a 9x6 with a 9x2 on top of it). There are smaller hung windows that we likely won't be using as much.

Any thoughts on the Andersen 200 series patio slider door?

All the Andersen sliders are pretty solid. Probably the nicest part of their line up in some folks eyes.

I find the Andersen casement hardware tends to fail prematurely. If you go casements, I'd go Marvin. On the other hand, your source is absolutely correct about Marvin sliders being difficult to operate. If you go that direction, do the Andersen. You'll be happy with Marvin or Andersen for your sliding door.

Am I understanding correctly that you are concerned with spending $3-4K more on windows for a home that costs several million dollars?

P.S. both of those quotes sound low to me, but it’s hard to know without more details. You didn’t say how many windows those quotes were for, but it sounded like your entire house’s windows?

We have about 18 windows total.

While it is $3-4K on an expensive house, it still is $3-4K that we don’t need to if the quality difference is not worth it :)

So we got the final quotes as we are switching to all casements with a couple of small sliders in the baths. This is the pricing we got:

    1. Andersen 100: $13k

    2. Andersen 400: $15.5k (this includes some andersen 100's in the bathrooms)

    3. Integrity: $18k

Are the integrity's worth $5k more? Or are the 400's a good/better compromise?

The house is a bit more modern farmhouse style...black in and out. Thoughts?

Does that include installation and reframing openings? Patching in siding and interior drywall and trim?

I don’t think the Intergritys are worth more unless it is there wood Ultrex and that is due to them costing more. I think 100 would be a good choice unless you prefer the thinner profile Of the All Ultrex. I have not heard of hardware failures being common on Andersen’s before today

@mill this is for a new construction project, so this is just the cost of the Windows. My contractor has a separate estimate for the installation of the windows, same
    Price irrespective of the brand.

"this is for a new construction project"

Oh, my bad for some reason I thought you were replacing windows. I would agree with toddinmn then.

Thank you @mill and @todd, any thoughts on whether the 400 series is worth spending up for? The casements are almost the same price in both the 100 and 400 series
