I'd add some railings, since the flooring doesn't make a newcomer immediately aware of an immediate step down.

Do a lot of thinking on this, because, nothing will fit right afterwards. Your doors wont fit right, your windows will be too high up, everything is designed for the height it is now. However, I have to agree with Oliviag, put railings on there. That is an accident waiting to happen, because, it is hard to see with the matching flooring, that there is a raise in heights. One wonders why people do things like that, but, it is what it is. Your house is very pretty.

It can be done! I've seen two houses with the foyer step removed and it looks incredible. Please let us know if you move forward with this project. I would like to do the same thing.

There’s a 3“ step up from front porch

The only 3" step up from the front porch is a big problem because it looks like the main level of the house is below porch level?

Otherwise, the only doors or windows impacted looks like the entry door and the closet doors.

Can you post a picture of the outside of the house so we can have an idea of how the porch floor relates to the interior floor levels?
