Definitely not that marble. I like the ideas above...I would do a shaped tile, and something fun!

With gray cabinets it's best not to have the same color gray tiles - you need some contrast. A white tile with gray grout would look nice, or a patterned tile with a white background.

thanks So much for your responses! I definitely don’t want any color or anything too trendy that i might tire of in a couple of years. I like the idea of white if I can get a white that doesn’t make the counter look dull or dingy. I’m guessing a matte white might be better? maybe something like this, would light gray grout still work?

i just installed SIlestone Statuario and went with white subways with Silverado grout (light gray) SIlverado is very pretty and works well with the gray of the statuario. Unfortunately, in my kitchen Statuario looks pure white and rather boring because the veins are way TOO subtle. Your choice to go with gray cabinets is so very smart!
