What does he hate about duvets?...and you do realize a duvet is an envelope that a comforter goes into with some kind of closure at the open end..

We know what a duvet is to the poster that explained, thank you. With the ones we have had, he didn’t like the button closure and having to adjust because of the way the down comforter inside would shift or drop down when moving about. He just has never liked them and is more of a one piece, no envelope kind of dude. Laundry day, he wants to wash the one piece and done...

Thanks for all the suggestions and it is a wood floor and I do want to use a rug partially underneath the foot of the bed...I see a couple here I really like.

I don't see a reason on earth for kids on mom and dads bed beyond a bedtime story after a bath. But that's me : ) If it's tv entertainment while you're busy? Get a BIG and cheap king coverlet to toss over. Still a bad habit to start.

I would do a plain white quilt and add accent pillows in a style and colors to suit your house and a throw blanket at the foot of the bed.

I think there are some non granny quilts out there. Bed bath and beyond has some. Mainly depends on your style. I can relate about the duvets. They never seem to fit right inside the cover! My gripe is the patterns usually go the long way, and the sides always seem so short on my bed in that direction!

@Jan, totally agree. Kids have no business in or on parents beds. My kids are 6&9 so they don’t get in my bed but they will come into my room after being outside or eating peanut butter or perhaps making slime that all the kids are obsessed with now and their fingers and hands go where...straight to bedspread. My daughter stands next to bed and just bumps her body against it as she is talking to me. I maybe sorting laundry or whatever but yea, white or ivory will have to wait some years over here...

@kulrn-love the pic of the one you posted. We went to BB&Beyond and found one but it was a tad matronly. Going to check some other locations. The one you posted would work because it isn’t just plain white and had texture. Maybe something like that would be good.

In addition to what felizlady suggested, I have Restoration Hardware coverlets in my bedrooms since I hate duvet covers too , ( they look too puffy & a little messy to me, I like the tailored look of coverlets.)

I dislike the messy look of duvets also, and as op says always having to reposition the inside part. Give me a coverlet anyday!
