Need help picking

We are doing a contemporary kitchen with a huge 12’ island. It is a nod to mid century modern with flat panel walnut cabinets and only a few white high gloss uppers. Mostly drawers. What natural stone goes best? Will have hardwood floors in light color. Thanks!

Don't you think a terrazzo texture counter top would be more in keeping with the MCM style?

I like the Taj best (2nd pic) The others are nice, but I don't think they're the best w/the walnut.

That last one is super white and it's a Dolomite.

I love the terrazzo look. very mcm. (and it's just beginning to come back on trend)

I also love the recycled glass w/mcm style

    Vetrazzo or Ice Stone

and not sure if this island is Amazonite, but it's stunning

Taj. I have it and love it. But depends on specific slab.

#2 works the best with the cabinet ...like the others alone, but not so much with the wood. Love Beverly's idea about terrazzo!

Mine walks the line between light cream and light gray. Not big white.

#2 but the wood seems a little too (busy) veiny for it to go with any of the stones. The stones have beautiful movement so it may be alot for both cabinet and counter to have. #3 is gorgeous stone! but not with that wood! Sorry :(

All the slabs you show are lovely, but I do not see mid-century. For your gloss white/walnut cabinets. I see a solid white.

12’ will require 2 bookmatched slabs just for the island. If you want this out of 1 slab, the island size needs to be smaller. A terrazzo look is a much better choice.

I'm having difficulty reconciling contemporary and mid century modern. That said, while I like the slabs you are showing, IMHO none of them work well with your cabinet choice. I like the suggestion of white counters. Good luck.

This is "Beth-style" and she is unique and smart. She knows stone and sizing etc.

The second slab seems to have a bit of a brownish tone in it, and I would select that one.

I really love the first stone (it looks like rain falling from a storm cloud), but I think the 2nd one looks better with your cabinet choice.

Too much grain in the wood for all the movement in those choices. I would choose a solid white countertop. Do consider Corian's Glacier White. With that huge island, you'll never see the seam.

Thank you everyone for the great feedback. We tweaked the cabinet color to a more warmer, darker walnut and not so stripy. We really want to go with a natural stone over quartz knowing the all white is the simplest choice. We have three skylights over the island and I'm worried about yellowing with quartz. Will update with new photos soon.
