Well, you have to scarify the floor, and then pour sell leveler over the whole thing first. As much mess as that makes, and as much as that will raise the flor and cause clearance issues with everything, you might as well go ahead and remove the tile and do it right from th beginning.

Yep...GreenDesigns beat me to it. You have to do one of two things:

1. Jack out the tiles = $2-$3/sf (includes hauling away the waste + decent dust coverage); or

2. Sink the tiles in cement = $2-$3 per square foot (with or without dust remediation)

To sink the tiles in cement, you need to grind them down a bit (scarify) = plenty of dust and effort. Then the professional needs to coat them with primer (and allow it to cure) and then sink/cover it with cementatious material (aka self leveling compound) which needs to have a minimum thickness...but can't be too thick because it also has a maximum thickness.

Once the SLC has cured it gets ground up a bit (again more dust) to get rid of any lumps/humps/bumps. Now you can lay your laminate.

Usually the tile remover is faster. And you do not have issues with dishwashers or any other appliance being 'blocked' into their spaces.
