Are all Samsung refigerators bad?

I have been reading things and it seems that people say to stay away from Samsung and LG refigerators. I'm not sure if it's all of them or the ones with water/ice. I found one that does not have either, it's a FD and a good price but I'm not sure it's my best option. I do not want water/ice but I do want FD or 4-door refrigerator. I have a Samsung drier that is working well. It was in the scratch and dent aisle at Lowes. Samsung wasn't helpful with the front "legs" needed, but Lowes helped. Thanks for the help

Ours was an absolute nightmare. It did have ice and water, but I wouldn’t buy another one of their refrigerators

YES, they do not test their products; good luck with proprietary parts that have to be shipped from Korea; they skimp on electronics. I was trying to help a friend with dishwasher ... OMFG ... under engineered part has to be shipped from Korea with 30 days ETA. 2 year old waterwall dishwasher had to be trashed. Buy Bosch, amana, whirlpool- at least you can fix it same day or next day. As far as samsung refrigerators: icemaker issues, may be issues with defrost cycle.

I have a Samsung side-by-side with the door-within-a-door on the fridge side. I really like it and have had no issues in the 4 or 5 years I've owned it. I'll probably change to a French door for my next fridge but have not had any reason to be scared away from this brand.

I had a Samsung French door (with ice and water in the door) refrigerator installed 7+ years ago and it’s been great. No problems with it and it keeps food fresher longer than my previous refrigerator.

My Bosch dishwasher died after 6 years. That was a surprise since it replaced a 10 year old Bosch that never had a problem. That old Bosch was given to a friend and it’s still going strong.

When I bought my front load LG washer and dryer 16 years ago, a friend who was an appliance repairman said, I don’t believe in extended warranties except for that washing machine. The mother boards go out all the time. I didn’t listen to him and I’m glad I didn’t buy that extended warranty because its had no issues at all. A previously owned whirlpool washer had 2 service calls in the first year.

I think buying appliances is pretty much a crapshoot.

Hope you have good luck with whatever you buy.

We bought our Samsung a few years ago and have been very happy with it. It’s the French door style, but instead of the water/ice on the door, we have a water dispenser on the left inside panel and the ice maker is in the drawer of the freezer.

OTOH, we bought a Samsung gas slide in range (to match the fridge) a couple of years ago. It’s a beauty for sure and it has all the bells and whistles but I HATE IT. The new way their ovens now function renders it useless. Samsung knows this, but won’t fix the issue or stand behind their product. Also the Samsung tech who came out on one of the many repair calls I had made was so rude I almost tossed him from our home. Maybe we just got lucky with the fridge (knocking on wood) and appliances just isn’t one of Samsung’s strong suits.

This is the fridge we bought (it’s come down a lot in price).

Both Samsung and LG are technology companies that dabble in appliances (a very small portion of their revenue is from appliances).

To me, LG makes much better use of interior space in the FD market segment especially.

Some of the technology doesn’t really interest me.

Most important: the capability for remote diagnostics which may save a service call or let you figure out if the refrigerator is worth repairing.

Ice makers often are not covered by warranty but can cost $800 out of pocket to fix.

When our LG FD died, bought another same essential model but with remote diagnostics. That, and better use of space, convinced us.

We love our Samsung phones but have not had the same luck with kitchen appliances. Our refrigerator was the chief offender. It was in the house when we moved in a little more than a year and a half ago, and it malfunctioned on two occasions during that time. We recently replaced it with an LG model and are, so far, much happier.

French door fridge and induction stove set both died by four years in. Paid $500 to repair fridge; stove went to the landfill. Apparently there is a class action suit against Samsung for their stoves which have a pattern of fires starting during self-clean operation. Pure junk.

My French door Samsung RF217ACRS (no water/ice dispenser) got an inch of water in the fruit and vegetable drawers. Repair man fixed it and told me to keep the energy saver off. That worked, but what is the point of an energy saver option if you can’t use it? Also, shelves are impossible to clean if you have a spill that runs under the edge.

    I wouldn’t buy it again.

We had to replace our side by side Samsung refrigerator this spring. It was 8 years old and the refrigerator side couldn't stay cool. The freezer was fine. We tried putting it to the lowest setting and it kept reading in the upper 40s. We talked to the appliance repair guy on the phone and he told us not to even bother fixing it, that he's surprised we got 8 years out of it. We were also going out of town in a few days so we knew we would worry what we would come home to. We replaced it with a GE.

All my problems with my Samsung french door have been with the icemaker. it has been replaced twice, still freezes over. No longer under warranty.
I have a love/ hate relationship going on 4.5 years now. love the fridge, hate the icemaker.
My daughter loves her Whirlpool french door. But I like the door storage on the Samsung better. The drawers are similar in freezer and deli drawer.

My sister in law recently (2 years ago) had her kitchen remodeled. All appliances are Samsung. Her freezer died after the first year, followed by the refrigerator a month later. This is a side by side model. Now she lives by herself, is 82 years old and eats only Lean cuisine. It’s not like this refrigerator got a workout.

my fd samsung fridge works beautifully. 3 oor 4 yrs old.

Timely post. My six year old (insert bad word) Samsung refrigerator needs yet another service call. Today I contacted a large, reputable appliance repair company and was informed "We don't repair Samsung refrigerators." Speaks volumes, doesn't it?

I bought a whole Samsung suite when I redid my kitchen 5 years ago, I haven't had any trouble with the fridge, but both the microwave and dishwasher have failed.

We’ve had one for three years with no issues. Inside water and ice maker in the freezer, French door.

Our Samsung french door fridge has had a series of issues, from the infamous standing water under the crispers (and on the floor) problem, to broken water dispenser, broken icemaker, drip pan that can't be removed and broken door shelves. We even "fixed" the water issue only to have it come back this year. I'm not up for taking everything out of the fridge again. The door shelves are a joke - cheap plastic snapped together.

We have had both LG and Samsung refrigerators. The LG was replaced under an extended warranty from Sears when it refused to stop freezing the lettuce (and other things). Otherwise we were happy with it. We are replacing the Samsung with another Samsung -- and with our fingers crossed. We have a height limitation and Samsung and GE were the best choices. Our current Samsung is 3 years old and we have replaced the icemaker twice and it needs it again. So why are we buying another one? The GEs had bad reviews and, more importantly, Samsung seems to have changed their icemaker. It is now labeled IceMax and is more enclosed than previously and has some internal changes. We also bought an extended warranty just to hedge our bet. YMMV of course.

I have had a lot of trouble with Samsung CD fridges. While I would ordinarily never sugggest an extended warranty, on Samsung you might want one. I got mine and Lowe’s and bought the Lowe’s extended warranty at purchase, rather than Samsung‘s. I expect it to die, but I do love the layout so much. Good luck.

I have a new Samsung FD refrigerator with no ice or water. Within 6 months it began freezing up in the refrigerator unit. It is solved by defrosting the refrigerator every month, yes every month! I would never purchase a Samsung refrigerator again.

Worst fridge . Horrible customer service. I will never buy Samsung. We are going to have no fridge for Christmas , fixed last week just broke again. They said they won’t replace it until it brokrn 3 times..... it’s only 5 months old.

I bought a Samsung refrigerator from home depot 2 years ago for $1,000, the freezer went out 3 months ago, Samsung sent out a repair man 3 times and no one can fix it because it's a coolant leak that apparently no one in the state of Nevada is qualified to fix, Samsung is giving us $700, these are supposed to last 12 years, they should stand behind their product, we all know they make enough profit every year to do so, I recommend staying away from purchasing Samsung refrigerators. I've never had an appliance poop out so quickly, it still looks brand new and doesn't work....

The condenser on our French door Samsung refrigerator broke down after 14 months. Although it had a 10-year warranty and could not be repaired, Samsung made us jump through numerous hoops over a long period of time before resolving the issue. Eventually, after calling several times a day, having to repeat all the information each time and being given different responses, they wrote us a check for part of the cost. It was a nightmare and I will never buy anything Samsung!

dadoes said: HU-502032111, have you researched that part situation to confirm the handle isn't a separate part? Search the model number of the unit at online sour... ?

    ANSWER:

PART NO: DA67-03436 CAPS HANDLE FRE-L

    SAMSUNG REFRIGERATOR MODEL: RF26HFENDBC/AA

This needed Samsung part was researched and reported back as needing entire freezer door by:

    PARTS RESEARCH TEAM

    J&J INTERNATIONAL INC.

    SAMSUNGPARTS.COM

    800.627.4368

REFER TO: Samsung parts research Case# 209278:

This part that holds the FREEZER HANDLE to the FREEZER DOOR broke and it had a clear Part Number but the Samsung story is that his $3,00 =- $5.00 PART I have in my hand is part of the FREEZER DOOR so you must purchase the whole freezer door for $356.07 to replace this 5 dollar part.

An independent service technician on call for another Samsung appliance said, "NEVER BUY SAMSUNG APPLIANCES!"

If you Google Samsung you will find all kinds of issues not to mention comments about how bad their phones are.

So don't listen to me because I am not an expert, do your own research and make your own intelligent choices. But for me, I will NEVER buy another Samsung product.

HU-502032111, have you researched that part situation to confirm the handle isn't a separate part? Search the model number of the unit at online sources that have diagrams, such as SearsPartsDirect or AppliancePartsPros

OK, the additional information clarifies the situation. Two freezer handles of different mounting styles are available as a separate part ... but the actual handle isn't what broke. P/N DA67-03436 in the Samsung info you cited doesn't search as an available part.

Black Freezer Door (assuming it's the correct one):

    Google Search P/N DA91-03910C

Several sources are lower prices than you were quoted (not including shipping). It's variously cited as unavailable, out-of-stock with an estimated shipping date, or in-stock (one source claims to have 9). Sears claims in-stock and I can get it for $213 with a discount code including shipping & sales tax.

It is ridiculous to replace an entire door for a little broken piece and I imagine you'll get more satisfaction by dumping the unit for some other brand.

I had a Samsung fridge that was the worst pos I have had in my entire life.

Froze anything near the back wall.

Leaked water so that there was an ice sheet under the veggie drawer.

Impossible to clean as the veggie drawers had open channels that could not be cleaned.

Leaked water under the fridge so I had to use a hammer to break it up to grab the large pieces.

Remember... they knowlingly released phones with exploding batteries. They are a vile Chinese company with shit products.

Please save your sanity, do not buy Samsung appliances. I have needed replacement parts 2 years after purchase and now in class action for refrigerator, dishwasher and microwave. Junk, pure junk.

Samsung America will assign a phone extension that coincides with your complaint then remove it so you cannot contact the person assigned to your claim.

Bought a Samsung refrigerator also a dishwasher gas stove and washing machine none of them lasted more than three to five years I'm out right around $4,000 because these products are so supposed to be so reliable took out extended warranties the cost of everything has went up they bought it because they couldn't get the parts and they had just had to throw them away however with inflation I had to spend an extra $1,000 get something American made that you can get parts for Samsung looks nice the most terrible customer service I've ever experienced and they could care less

See my post above regarding extended warranty. As expected, our Samsung icemaker choked at 18 months as I knew it would. After two no-show service calls — parts unavailable, allegedly -- I found a check in the mail for the purchase price plus sales tax. Bear in mind this was an extended warranty from Lowe’s, not Samsung. Now we just take a blow-dryer to the ice maker about once a week. Eventually we will replace with a Bosch but right now it is hard to get anything at a reasonable price. Never, ever buy anything from Samsung — that’s my policy.

I just received notification of responses to this 3 year old thread. I had responded 3 years ago that my Samsung fridge purchased in 2011 was working great and kept food fresher for longer than my previous fridge. I am happy to report that my Samsung fridge is still going strong. It will be 11 years old next month and I have had no problems with it whatsoever.

Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket since I am so lucky

Samsung appliances are over priced garbage.

  • last year

Another bump? Ok I’ll add that I bought a Samsung FD with two ice makers in 2013 and had no issues with it during the remaing 8 years or so I owned that house. Actually I really liked it, While the upper ice maker took up fridge space it was really the beat of both worlds for somwone who uses the dispenser a lot.
