In Hayward. I would guess a Hass. Has the rounded leaves,plus Hass was what all the nurseries sold in the 50's and 60's, other varieties being here and there.

I grew up in Hayward and one of my best friends on Depot road in the 70’s had an avocado tree even bigger than the one in the OP. It was always loaded with hundreds of avocados .

I had somebody else correct me on that being the biggest. He said the same thing of a few even being much bigger. I don't doubt you.

Look at the foliage on this thing..just dense as can be.

My Hass is in its second year and about 4'. Not a fast grower. I've grown them from pits faster than that. That tree gave huge delicious Avocados at 8 years old. Then,three years later died of some root fungus. Why I went back to a grafted tree.

Be hard to get to all the fruit at that size. Magnificent, though.

I'm planting some Avocado trees in my very small back yard, for function as well as avocados. Do they shade much when they're smaller? How many years does it take for them to grow fruit typically? I was thinking 5-8?

From grafted? no more than 5 for pickable fruit. For seed? Mine started at 7,but all those fell off. At the 8 year mark it was giving large delicious creamy buttery, all that,avocado fruit. After only three years of that and about 15' tall?..it got some root problem and died fast.

Might be multiple trunk Hoove. That was different. Most giants are like Oak trunks. So maybe more evidence it was seed grown.

Seed grown plants always outgrow grafts all across the plant world.

This is lIke the avocado tree my grandparents had in their home backyard down in Sao Paulo, Brazil!! It was HUGE! And so were its avocados! LOL 😂

Whoa...that's one big avocado tree! My husband's parents had some big trees here in SoCal that produced very large avocados, although nothing like the ones in these pix. Crazy!

Those giant Avocado's Chloe, are Carribean. They taste much more watery. Some people prefer them to the buttery nut like California types.

I grew from a pit one of those Caribbean Avocados and I can tell you it made a very tropical looking potted tree. Much more luxurious foliage than the California types.

We had work done on the house and I couldn't water it for a week in that area..and it died.

Makes me wonder how many of them are planted in California? I got the feeling its more cold sensitive but never got a winter out of it.

And I thought mine was big...
