Begonia erythrophylla?

I concur with junco, plain 'ol Beefsteak Begonia. A great, easy plant.

Thanks!

I don't agree with beefsteak as this begonia appears to have some hair on its leaves, especially the underside of the leaves. Beefsteak (B. 'Erythrophylla') has wax-like (glaucous) leaves. There may be some parentage that both share though.

When I googled B. Erythrophylla I noticed, as hc mcdole pointed out, that unlike my plant, it had waxy leaves. The leaves on my plant are very fuzzy. I also noticed that B. Erythrophylla leaf stems were greenish as compared to the reddish stems of my plant. Could it be B. Acetos? Whatever it is, it’s a lovely plant.

I don't think this is acetosa either but may have some of its ancestry in it.

Sandy,

Check out images of B. 'San Miguel'. I think I had it once, maybe twice years ago and for some reason the name came to me this morning. I think this is closer to your mystery begonia than the beefsteak begonia or B. acetosa.

I only had time for a quick look, but it definitely looks closer than the other possibilities. I’ll do some research when I have a chance. Blossoms will help so I hope it blooms this year. Thanks!

What a great backstory. And a lovely plant.
