Awkward Entry/Living Room/Dining Room Layout

The front door of our home opens up directly into our "formal" living room/dining room. Right when you walk in, you see the living area to your right, and a large one-step up landing and staircase to your left (see layout attached to this message). I hate that there's no entryway, but I feel like using the couch to create one makes the room feel more closed off. Is there a better way to arrange everything to create a better flow? I'm also open to adding additional furniture or changing pieces out completely. (Side note: we're refinishing the dining table/chairs, so those will match better very soon.) Any and all suggestions are appreciated!

Place the sectional with back to the wall. The chaise will then be positioned under the window.. Using the rug to fill up the living room area, the bare floor will become a path into the house.

Use the same rug or coordinate color rug for under the dining table, except turn the table and have rug edges align. (Hope you get my idea…hard to fine photos).

Is sofa facing the long wall bc you are mounting a TV? If not, then I agree with turning the sofa. If it’s a TV room too, it doesn’t look like there’s another spot for the TV.

After thought: the little table on the landing, use that as an end table for the sectional.

I have no entry too. Or move couch down 3 ft; so can walk around it. Or can put couch at window. Is there a tv for room? It can go maybe the stairway wall.
