This is the type of closet that you add shelving to one side for shoes, folded sweaters, handbags, scarfs, etc.

Then add a wardrobe closet in the bedroom to hang clothes.

I had a closet like this in a rental. I had three short rods, front to back. That gave me 9 feet of hanging space. The front held most often worn clothes, the second less worn and the very back out of season or formal wear. It had shelves around the three sides which held luggage, pocketbooks etc. I used dressers for t-shirts, sweaters etc. I found the closet held a lot and it was well organized.
