Kitchen entrance from garage

Is there a distance that is acceptable to have to walk from garage to the kitchen? Currently there is a pocket door entry to the kitchen which is about 10ft from the garage of total walking distance. If we eliminate the pocket door it will be about a 30ft walk from garage to the kitchen island. It makes the kitchen more functional I think eliminating the door and gaining wall space but did not want it to be so inconvenient for groceries etc.

Thanks.

Where is the pocket door you’re talking about?

A bigger issue is that all the traffic goes past the bedrooms, and you’ll be carrying kitchen trash back out to the garage past the kid bedrooms. The garage Entry is too long and narrow, there’s no drop zone for jackets and backpacks and parcels.

Is this new construction or a remodel?

Remodel so unfortunately stuck with those unfortunate elements. The pocket door is current this remodel design made that small hallway between pantry and refrigerator to enter kitchen. I wanted to maybe eliminate it and enlarge the pantry but then that would cause for a longer walking path to the kitchen.

I wanted to do that but would it not be a concern that people could easily float from the kitchen into the "private" bedroom space? That was my initial thought for where to put the door but I had always heard it was bad to have the kitchen allow for thru traffic

So there is no garage entrance to the house? Halls are wasted space a plan with less of them is best. Could you post your current layout too. I still don't understand where the pocket door is.

I could entirely eliminate a hallway which earlier iterations had but then you would walk straight along side the kitchen as you only ability to get to the back rooms (the hallway between the kitchen and bathroom leading to bedrooms)

What are your goals for the remodel?

More open floor plan, entrance from side of house given there are steps to get in being on a hill, and change all the finishes as it was bought as a fixer so I would like to do everything at once rather than piece meal

You really want a different house. Maybe sell this one and buy one. The changes you want are too expensive and drastic to fit well onto bones of this home. You’ll never be able to recoup the expense.

The remodel will definitely cost less than the amount the house will increase in value. I confirmed with comps and realtors so I am less concerned about that. Just want to do the best remodel possible

I’ve never so many doors in one concentrated area. The plan is hard to read, blurry
