Wall paint color

last modified: 7 years ago

Hi. I just inherited a 60 yr old bedroom set. It probably did yellow a bit but I do love it. I am painting the room and I can’t find a color. My painter really wants to use BM paint. I want more of a cream neutral color. Not much yellow to it because furniture is a bit yellow. A nice airy romantic look. Any suggestions? Here's is a pic of one of the pieces and the drawers. Thank you

I hate to suggest colors with you in such a rush because multiple samples in your own room would probably work better. That’s good advice about taking your drawer to the store.

Having said that, BM Gentle Cream May work. Yes it looks yellowish, but it may be a good starting point if you can check the Benjamin Moore colors.

I have a sample of Gentle Cream. A beautiful colour but yes, it's yellow. I would have suggested a pale pink but OP said no grey, pink or orange. Pink risks looking very 'young girl's bedroom' as well.

Here are some examples. Not suggesting a color but showing you. I have quite a few.

Wow thank you. that helps a lot!!

Adjusted The drawer in Navajo white a bit. Probably easiest to eliminate some and if you want me to group some together I can.

If it were my room (not a pro) I would get the lightest without it being too bright. Not too white that it makes my furniture dingy looking.

Tartan - it sounds like she is in a rush with no time to have a color consultation on her home. I’m not a pro but wanted to give her some ideas of actual colors. Maybe you have some suggestions?

Yes it’s crazy but painter changed my date. But I have to do it now cause floors getting done next week. Have movers moving furniture here a week from Monday.

Any suggestions welcomed. I may not be looking at right shade of paint. I don’t want a color cause room is small. So said Creams. Can’t go to light looks white and washed out.

Cant go to yellow cause furniture has yellow in it. Can’t go grey. So I am a bit lost

Sugar cookie is a nice bright yet soft option. I considered it as well for my bedroom. I know it’s not easy to choose. I bought over ten paint sample cans trying to choose for my bedroom. That’s why I recommend going to store with a drawer. Yes, you can go with a colour rather than an off-white but that will inform (limit?) your bedding choice. Blues would be nice. Perhaps a muted green-blue? Don’t have specific names to offer, sorry.

I agree a nice neutral ... cream would leave options open for bedding. I want to put sheer long to floor panels in there. No heavy curtains. Is creams best way for me to go. Greys don’t work. Beiges?

I dont think any of the creams do justice to your beautiful furniture. I do agree with the poster above about a very light turquoise or aqua. The furniture has quite a bit of yellow in it, so paints with yellow in them, just will not look right. You could probably even use a very light green, or a light sage green if you dont like the aquas.

Yes finding the creams have to much yellow. In Person the furniture is yellowed but not as much as it shows A color would work If I can’t find another solution. Had heart set on elegant. Clean airy look .

I don’t understand now - are you in a rush or no?

    I suggested cream because you didn’t want a color-color.

If you have time, search through Houszz and internet for French Provincial bedrooms with off-white furniture, or vintage French Provincial bedroom, and see what colors you like paired with the furniture.

Maybe the other posters can give you the names of colors they suggest for your walls??

I am rather simple - I like neutral walls (usually), and like to add color in other ways.

I’m sorry if I worded wrong. Yes in a rush.

And yes I’m a neutral person too. It’s just shades of white are to white. The creams throwing lots of yellows.

I agree with Cindy about a quick Google for ideas. I found a blog from Kathy Kuo about updated French provincial bedroom decor with specific paint colour suggestions. Good luck!

Tartan - can you share the link?

I would have but I’m on my phone and it’s not cooperating. :( Google will find it for you as well, no worries. :)

Look at BM Smoke if you want a little color. I still think a pale turquoise or blue would look nice.

Benjamin Moore Whispering Spring is a pale aqua that is not bright, and looks light and airy to me on walls (I’ve used it in two small bathrooms).

Some examples of pale aqua bedding.

Pick a creamy color for the walls, aqua and gold-ivory bedding, beautiful art with gold frames, plants and flowers, and you are done.

But - I prefer simple and am not a designer.

Please look at the color of this furniture with all of the cream colors, and then I have a couple of aqua bedding examples.

I did like Navajo white but not on my walls. looked different so I went totally neutral. Did linen white walls. One store said to do linen white trim the other store said simply white trim for contrast hmmm????? And another question. Right now doors and trim linen. Painter thinks simply white but the front of door to the bedroom do I keep it linen white like the hallway ..bathroom and other bedroom doors or if we chose simply white do I change it??

If you have linen white already, I would continue with it, especially since the white trim may not look good with the color of your furniture.

Please post pictures when you are done.

I’ll post when he leaves later Had to prime some wood so can see it white.

Trim do you use semi gloss? And the rule of thumb fir the front of bedroom door!

Blinds are white. not chalk white but white

I use semi-gloss on my trim and doors (Benjamin Moore Advanced). Some people prefer satin. Are your walls eggshell, matte ?

    Eggshell

    Your pictures aren’t showing darn!

Whatever sheen your doors are, continue that with the bedroom.

I happen to like semi-gloss trim, but it is a personal choice.

Maybe try doing it more slowly. I’m on my phone and sometimes I have to swipe out of the app so it refreshes.

This is crazy. Something came up stop notifications on this post??

I’m on an iPhone app. Down at the bottom right you click your profile, and then click “idea book”. I think you click the plus sign to add a book into which you can save pictures.

Finally can post. Wouldn’t let me today.

    Linen white wall paint

    simply white trim satin

I’m liking the paint and white trim. But satin feels like a primer. And then the door issue. The front of bedroom door is linen to match other four doors in hallway But when door is open it looks odd in room

selling headboard. Doesn’t match new furniture

In person the white trim is so pure white

Have you grown to like the simply white trim with the linen white walls? I’m considering this combo for my MIL’s house
