Is it this color all spring & summer? Do you have pictures of it from earlier in the season? It sort of reminds me of Gold Standard or one of its sports. I recently had 2 of my plants identified as that, so I may just Have that on the brain. Someone in this forum will know what it is. :-)

I wish I could remember what it looks like in the spring but I can't. I could only find one other picture of it and it was taken two years ago in August as well. It looks pretty much the same, only smaller. It's only this year that I decided I needed to figure out what's in my garden and where it's planted. I almost dug up some Russian Sage by mistake this spring because it wasn't up yet and I forgot it was there!

I think it probably qualifies as a dwarf? I remember buying three of them around the same size to go in a very narrow, shady area beside a pathway. The pathway was redone and I had to move the little hostas. One of the three was Rainforest Sunrise (found that tag, LOL) so this one would be in that size range. It is now planted in an area where it's in full sun until about 1 PM, if that's of any help.

i had a small one... and the leaves were no bigger than my thumb nail ... are you saying its that small ....

either give us leaf measurement .. or take a new pic with something we recognize the size of ... like a lighter... or pen .,..

in hosta.. we talk of mini ... small.. medium .. large or giant .... dwarf doesnt mean anything to us ...

also.. straight down pix are confusing.. if you do go take another.. take one from the side ... thxx

A few of the nurseries around here refer to the little ones as dwarfs so I thought that was correct. Maybe they just figure the uneducated masses will know they’re small if they call them that. ;) I measured one of the more mature leaves and it’s 4” long. The whole plant is about 7” in height.

I think Babka might be on to something with “Remember Me”. I’ve just been Googling and it seems it’s a very slow grower, growing anywhere from 6” - 15” in height though the websites of the nurseries around here (Ottawa, Ont) tend to put it at the lower end of the range. Also read it’s a hard Hosta to grow especially in the first 2 - 3 years. Guess I’ve been lucky, since I’ve dug it up and moved it at least three times!

I also had to google to see what a “sport” was. What, if anything, do you do about that? I kind of like its multiple personalities. Here’s another picture taken from the side that will hopefully help with a final ID.

remember me.. is one of the hardest hosta to get to live .. let alone grow well ... i think i was gifted 6 of them.. and they all died ...

ergo... i kinda always rule that one out ...

dont worry about your words... i was teaching you up a bit ... making sure we were communicating ...

hosta are basically unstable ... they do all kinds of weird things ... and that part of why we like them ...

but there is one bottom line.. a hundred dollar hosta.. without a name tag... is just another 5 dollar hosta ... so.. you may never figure this one out ...

there is a lot of info in the hosta library.. beyond just the alphabet part ... should you wish to keep learning ... we need new converts ...

I don't think this is Remember Me. I have one, and it has much thicker dark green margins than this little guy.

What about Teeny Weeny Bikini? Photo of plant That looks the closest to your little hosta.

Here is my Remember me. I think TWBM is way smaller and is true dwarf.

My teeny weeny bikini is really teeny. It’s in a 4” pot. I separated it from the parent that had become all green. I apologize for the bad condition it’s in. It needs to be moved to a better location and the potted one needs planting. I took a pic from the side just for you Ken, but that means looking at a big ugly rock too.... :-)

I googled the teeny weeny bikini and the more mature leaves on my hosta are bigger than the length listed for the teeny weeny. I also read it has dark purple flowers. I found a picture of my hosta that I took last week when there were still a few flowers left. They were quite pale so I guess it's not a teeny weeny bikini.

The pictures you both posted of your Remember Me's are lovely. :) I can see why people want these, even though they have a reputation of being difficult to grow. That, in itself, makes me think mine probably isn't a Remember Me. I'm the type of person who plunks something in the ground and, except for the occasional watering, I ignore it. If it doesn't make it, it wasn't meant for my garden. I can feel your cringes all the way from here. ;) LOL

I'm going to keep a close eye on the green leaves on mine. It looks like they are starting to turn yellow in the middle. I assume the yellow will eventually turn white. I found a picture I took of my garden two years ago. The hosta was about the same height as it is now, it's just not as wide. I notice it had some solid green leaves on it back then too.

I've looked at hosta pictures until my eyes are crossed and I can't find anything that starts out with solid green leaves that turn yellow in the middle and then the yellow turns white. I now understand why Ken called this the Hosta Insanity Forum!

Wow. If a hosta's leaves are only as big as a thumb nail you have a very miniature (micro?) hosta. If I can grow a Remember Me under a Norway maple it is not difficult to grow. Yours doesn't look like my Remember ME but mine is in deep shade under a Norway maple. Your NOID looks a LOT like my Gold Standard which is probably stunted by being underneath a Norway maple (yard is dominated by Norway maples). My other GS of the same age (7 years) and only now would I describe it as medium size. Most if not all hosta buyers buy them for the look, not the name. A hundred dollar hosta NOID would still be a hundred dollar hosta if it looks like a hundred dollars hosta. Call it Bob (or Frank as is my Francis William). My $5 Stained Glass is a hundred dollar hosta because now I have 7 from the original AND is a spectacular hosta.

My reality is not all reality, that I know. If only others could learn that.

Perhaps your unknown little hosta is Cat's Eye?

Gardencool, mine doesn't have leaves as big as a thumbnail, I think that was Ken talking about one of his. :) I googled Gold Standard and I have to agree the way Gold Standard changes colour is the same as mine is doing but I think mine is too small. It's been this height (about 7") for at least three years and hasn't gotten any taller, just wider.

I don't really care what my hosta is worth, I wouldn't know a $5 hosta from a $100 hosta anyway. I'd just like to know what it's called in case someone asks me. Earlier this year, I was out walking my dog and saw a gorgeous hosta in someone's front yard. The owner was outside and I asked her what it was. She knew (Autumn Frost) so I was able to go right out and buy myself one. Saved me many days of trolling through Google Pics looking for it! ;)

Esther-B, I looked up Cat's Eye and it appears to be much smaller than my mystery hosta. :) I have a feeling it's going to remain a mystery for this year at least. Next year I will take pictures of it as it emerges in the spring, maybe that'll give someone a clue. What started out as a general inquiry has now become a "thing" for me and a mystery to be solved!

I had Cat's Eye years ago and it is TINY, like the leaves were about 1.25 long and .5 wide,

The first Hosta that fascinated me was called Surprised by Joy. I thought of it as soon as I saw your post. I can’t tell you what it’s leaves do because I killed it right off.

I know the size isn't right, but it looks like my Paul's Glory, which is in a lot of sun.
