Well...I tried! I needed to fasten it up since it was crossing the sidewalk. I wasn't exactly sure how or where to fasten it but this was the result! Well there are also mosquito bites and finger pricks involved, but this was prettier. Thanks guys!

If it is a climber any cane that is draping towards the ground should be tied up so the end of the cane points upward. Make sure the trellis is anchored down as a high wind storm will take it and the bush for a ride.

I use twine to tie my roses up when they are young. Then I switch to number 22 black house wiring (you local hardware store should care it in spools.) That way I don’t have to keep re-tying them when the twine breaks. Of course that may be over kill since you only have one rose. I wouldn’t prune it until you find out what kind it is.

I didn't even think about anchoring the trellis!! Thanks! Also, when I tied them I did a couple towards the root since they were pushing down and not up, unfortunately one of the vines/canes snapped

Doesn't look like 'Dr. Huey' in these shots. Not every last cane being suitable for bolt upright positioning is typical.

Ashley, Congratulations on your new home and garden. Welcome to the Rose forum. You will find there are many lovely and helpful folks here. Your climber looks much better on the trellis! Nice job. Yes to getting that trellis fixed into place or it will be a sail in the wind. Here are two videos to give you an idea how to train and prune a climber over time. The first one has a bit better explanation, but is showing training to spread the rose wide. The second is showing more the style you are going for with your trellis. Sometimes a climber gives a fall flush so if that happens please post an update so we can help you ID it. Otherwise it may not bloom until spring. In that case we will have to wait longer for your update.
