Some pictures from today...

I’ve been bummed about the deer damage but trying to stay positive. It certainly could have been worse but any setback for the hosta always makes me sad. Mine compete with big leaf and Japanese maples for water and root room so they develop slowly as it is!

Fat Cat-deer didn’t touch...apparently not a fan of felines

The only way ANY of my silver ferns do well is in a container

PurePerfume-I really like one and it is recovering quickly from being chomped on

Luna Moth with IrishLuck behind...I guess too close to the house for the deer to bother

CreamVeranda-in the front porch and one of my favorites

Lovely! I’ve been eyeing cream veranda. Seems to be out of stock quickly. I wonder if it’s hard to propagate.

    Really lush and gorgeous! :-)

Oh me too! I have been also eyeing Cream Veranda. I hear good things about her.

I love all your photos especially the CV rose. Im envious of your hostas. I have always wanted to try them but I know its iffy where I am in zn 9a. There are so many cool varieties now. I know people a little north of me can grow them though.

Those roses are luscious, and at a second look I see the long legs of a spider on a bloom of Cream Veranda. What a nice soft bed he has. With any luck he's also dining on some bad critters.

Rock ridge, I don’t know if it’s hard to propagate or not but definitely took a bit of time to get going.

Perma, I love it, I really do and that’s saying something coming from me; a person who generally puts fragrance above all else. It does have some but it is light.

Ken, you do not even know how glad I am football is back. Even excited for preseason, which is embarrassing but I don’t care :)

Sultry, hosta are great when they’re good but when things go badly...they usually go VERY badly! Oh, well. I guess that’s why it’s best to have a multitude of plants. There’s got to be something nice to look at, right?

    Thank you, Jim!

Ingrid, I hope he snacks on all kinds of bad guys! That’s one of the best parts of an organic garden, there’s usually a little something for everybody :)

I love that spider, too, oursteelers. He's protecting your gorgeous Cream Veranda--what a luscious rose. I just want to eat it up! Your hosta look so fresh and bright. I have one lone hosta, shaded and in hiding where the deer will never find it, and it's done well for years in its little spot. But the deer struck last night, and pretty much took out the entire flushes of a bunch of roses that were just getting going. Ugh. I hope you don't have them coming by often to eat your roses. Diane

Diane, I am so sorry about the deer. At my house hosta are first on the menu, then daylilies, roses and hydrangea.

It is just so hard when you wait so long for your plants to get big and healthy and then they’re gone in an instant.

Plus, I don’t know what it’s like at your house but right now there is still plenty of food for the deer to eat besides my plants!

And I don’t know if it’s true or not but I’ve read that hosta aren’t even good for them! It’s like their version of crack.

I hope the preventative methods I’ve used stop them but I’m pretty worried. Everyone says once they’ve found your yard they never forget it :(

The plants looks great! I don't grow much in the way of roses anymore outside of rugosas and a couple odds and ends, so I enjoy seeing pics of those luscious blooms!

We spray at least once a week and even with lots of daylilies, don't have deer problems in our unfenced yard. Sometimes I chase the young ones out but we switch sprays every month or so and that seems to work. They did eat the new wood on a hydrangea this year but that was well before we began spraying.

The rose blooms are like porcelain, very nice photos of your garden.

Lovely CV Rose. Sorry about the deer damage..... I only get slugs, cutworms and raccoons but they only want the cat kibble....... :-) Love the LM too!

i hear my go blue buddy devin bush might have had a rookie statement game????

Ken, he looked pretty good. Very confident and active. Early days yet but I was happy with how he is meshing with the team.

I like the preseason to see how all the babies look but by the last game I start to feel bad, knowing some of them won’t make it
