Best way to store cutting boards?

I'm working on the nitty gritty of cabinet design for our new-build house. What's the prevailing though (if there is one) on the best way to store cutting boards? A narrow door cabinet? This makes it easy to grab whichever one I want, but it likely results in some wasted space at the top of the cabinet. A wide shallow drawer? Less wasted space, but also hard to grab the preferred cutting board?

I'm sure I'm overanalyzing this, but this is my (hopefully) one chance to design what will work best, rather than make do with whatever is already in the kitchen.

We put ours in a top drawer in our island where we prep. Works well for us.

We put ours in a 5” gap between the cabinets in our prep island. Just made some custom shelves ourselves to blend in. It works perfect! I got the idea from another user on Houzz( can’t remember the user name). It’s not finished in the picture but should give you an idea.

    Mine are above my oven.

We put ours in a deep drawer with dividers in a cabinet bank of our island on the end close to our fridge. Half the drawer is cutting boards standing on their sides and half is colanders. It works very well and I also thought I was over analyzing every little detail of our new build but I am glad I did because we now have a very functional kitchen.

Mine are in an upper in my prep area and are stacked like in the pics against the side of the cabinet. No separate divider for them. I have a handful of white plastic ones from Ikea.

Very good thing to question and plan for. Ours are in one of the slots in a deep bottom drawer, which works perfectly for us: it's very easy to see them all and grab the one I want, and it's next to the sink where we always do most prep work, knives are in the top drawer, and compost bin is in the pullout under the sink, so everything is all in one spot. (sorry, photo won't load. I'll try again later)

Mine kitchen is like a small cabinet where everything is looking like messy thanks we build drawer inside the kitchen which helps us to store cutting boards as well as other ingredients as well.

Mine are on the counter, standing up and leaning against the fridge surround sidewall - I only have two. So easy to use this way.

    We did this

We invested in 2 beautiful and hefty wooden cutting boards and one gorgeous marble pastry slab. They stay out on the counters and are just part of the kitchen decor. That way we always have somewhere to drop things hot out of the oven and I don’t have to worry about my teens remembering to take them out.

I'm doing the same as johnsoro25 for my smaller cutting boards. I also have a large walnut one that fits on top of my gas range perfectly (it's never put away unless I'm cooking) and provides additional chopping etc space...I also lift my hot oven sheets etc right on it.

I still can't post a photo (grrr), but if you're really interested (and have absolutely nothing better to do) it's in one of my early comments in the following thread: Reveal: A Not-White Kitchen

Under the sink with a vertical divider.

    Quick & Easy version:

We added vertical dividers in a regular 16” wide cab. It can also store things we reach for regularly like jellyroll pans for roasting etc.
