Trim color/door color advice, please? :)

We‘re building a log cabin. The walls of the hallway, living room, office, dining room and some of the kitchen are unfinished/natural, very light-colored Ponderosa Pine w/dark brown knots. The door trims and window trims throughout all are the same dark brown color (Espresso) of stained wood (which is a nice contrast and brings out the knots :-)). I wanted to make our master bedroom and master bathroom spaces a bit of a different feel, though, so I wanted to go with colors that are subdued/tone-downed (soft shades of beiges/tans/neutrals & more gentle nature-inspired decor) — not as “rich” in color as the rest of the house is... just a “softer” feel. (Still will include some wood/stone/nature elements to tie everything together). The master bedroom door is off the hallway and on the hallway side has the dark brown (Espresso) wood trim around it. Considering the color scheme I’m going for in the master bedroom & bathroom, must the door trim on the other (bedroom side) of the bedroom also be that same dark brown (Espresso) trim as on the hallway side? (Our GC and another guy on our construction crew think that if we don’t do the Espresso trim color on that side of the door as well, and instead, go with a lighter-colored wood trim stain around the door on the bedroom side, (although that would coordinate better with the lighter/subdued colors I’m doing in that room) it wouldn’t look right; and they said they’ve never seen it done). I‘m not wanting to do that dark, rich Espresso color anywhere in the master bedroom or bath...... :-/ .

Also, they recommended doing the master bedroom wood window trim and wood closet trim in the same Espresso color, to match. (Again, not the subdued color scheme I was going for....). Am I bound to do the inside bedroom door trim the same color as the outside hallway door trim? Would it look funny if it were a different color on the inside? And even if I did do the dark color, could I then do light-colored wood trim on our master bedroom window and for the closet doors trim, or would that look “off”/funny in contrast with the dark Espresso trim around the inside of the bedroom door? (Also, can the bedroom door itself be different shades of wood stain on each side?). Thanks SO much for all thoughts; I really appreciate it! :-D Stacey
