I live in fruit growing town and they are just part of life here I try to put as much as i can in the fridge and wrap the stems of bananas with cling wrap and hope for the best. I have never found any of the tricks to work very well at all but worth a try where you live, They do like my husbands wine so maybe try wine instead of vinegar .

Patricia we had an infestation of them several years ago and the apple cider vinegar trick did wonders. We actually put 3 cups in various places around the kitchen and dining area.

I've used the AC vinegar with a small squirt of dish soap minus the cling wrap. Haven't had any fruit fly issues since I began giving fruit (and veggies) a bath as soon as I bring it home. Fill the sink half full with cold water, and add 2-3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. Drop in the produce, and let it all soak about 5 minutes. Remove and dry very thoroughly. Super easy & everything's ready to eat, too!

ETA: The only fruit I don't toss in the vinegar bath is bananas. I wipe those down with a soapy dishrag, and immediately dry them with a clean towel. Otherwise, the skin will quickly turn an awful brown.

Consider storing the fruit in the refrigerator, inside of leaving it out on a counter. Try not to leave any garbage in the house from the fruit either.

I used red wine or apple cider vinegar with dish soap in a drinking glass and let the bubbles of the soap come up over the glass. The surface tension of the bubbles causes the flies to not be able to fly out and the vinegar or red wine attracted them to the glass.

Try flushing out your drains with lots of boiling hot water too. I have found they like my vinegar and during big outbreaks it has to go in fridge.

I found this product aunt fannies flypunch. It worked far better at trapping flies than the apple cider vinegar + dish soap did (head to head comparison about 10x more flies in the aunt fannies). Still took a while to get rid of them.

I had good luck with putting a small piece of fruit in a jar in which the opening was covered with paper folded in a funnel shape. It seems that the flies can't figure out how to get out.
