Check with your city, county, or HOA. I'm guessing you'll be too close to the property line.

There is sheds that fit up against the house. But as RG said you have to check with your township on the setback from the property line. The minimum in my township is 10 ft from the property line for a small shed. Can you put it in your back yard?

In our area, a shed would be permitted in there, IF it were on skids, and had no water or electricity going to the shed. In that case it would not be considered a permanent structure.

In my opinion while it seems like a good place to put a shed there are many negatives. One big one would be yard maintenance. Keeping the weeds in control on the fence sides of the shed and between the shed and house would be another problem.

I believe the biggest negative is access. Because the shed would completely block access to the back yard, there may be some fire code restrictions against having it in there. A shed would cut off all potential access to the back yard as not only the fence but the shed would have to be removed if you had to move a tractor or some other type of equipment into the back yard. Depending on the other side of the house and accesses through the fence this may not be a problem.

If that side of the house were to receive damage, hail, etc, or need painting the shed would definitely be in the way.

Bottom line if it were me I would not do it and come up with another alternative for storage.

Thanks for the feedback! I’ll get with HOA and see what they say. I also thought about putting a temporary shed there. Wonder if that would be okay being that it wouldn’t be a permanent structure. I also need to check on paving all of it.

Remove grass, put down gravel, put shed on top of that. Forever more do weed control with an occasional application of a preemergent like Casoron.

Even if a shed were legal (which I doubt) it wouldn't be a good place for it. You need to maintain access to the hose spigot, for one. So it's mainly as a maintenance access path. It could be mulched, or possibly paved (again, check with regs.) There's got to be a better place in the yard for a shed.

I was just trying to make better use of that space and not have a shed in the middle of the yard. As far as the water hose I was thinking running it through the Shed. The yard isn’t very big and we have a sprinkler system so won’t be using the hose that much at all.

Usually a picture from further back..showing more of the house and the area...offers more ideas....assuming this is the back of the house ...how is the space on the other side used?

The other side is a gate to the front yard.

Aha..this does bring one idea to mind...how about putting a gate that lines up
with the house...that creates a little private area for storage..the ground could be a little concrete pad... or gravel....in the rainy season things could be covered with a tarp or plastic

You may even buy or build a tiny storage shed that will not show above the fence

That’s exactly what I was thinking about! A small little fence in front. That would be a perfect plan B if HOA doesn’t let me do anything extravagant. I still like the idea though because it would probably be a couple thousand cheaper than constructing a custom shed.

This is a good site for ideas...however nothing will allow you full use of the entire space as well as just adding a gate...never mind the savings in just adding a gate..you could buy a nice lawnmower with that savings...

I just made my sixth trip between the garage and my shed. There is a negative to having a remote shed where you keep all of your garden tools. It is often overlooked when considering a shed.

When you have your new shed and have your garden equipment neatly arranged in the shed you think you are done. Not so. You need some sort of work shelf and a complete set of tools in the shed, unless you plan on making many trips between your garage and shed to get tools from the shed. At minimum you will need a complete set of wrenches to remove battery cables, change the head on your trimmer, and numerous other small task.

You will need several screw drivers Philips, straight, etc in a couple of difference sizes.

You will need several types of pliers, a hammers, some funnels, etc.

Once you get the tools that you will need, you will need to organize them shelves, hangers and such.

I am going out to the shed again.

krnuttle, You forgot that it is another place for junk/crap to accumulate. I know my shed is half full of that type of stuff.
