I don't think Certainteed has discontinued their "shangle" product in driftwood, but that may be the case in specific markets. I suggest you check with suppliers outside your local market.

How about doing a metal roof on the garage? My brother has shingles on his house and metal on his detached barn; it looks fine. I think close but no cigar is worse.

This thread is a year old but I’d love to know what you ended up doing on your garage. I love our Independence shingle and am so sad it’s discontinued.

If the shingle is discontinued hire a contractor that specializes in insurance claims. This should be paid for by insurance 100%!

We are looking for a replacement for CertainTeed Independence Driftwood too, what did you end up using? My daughter's roof in Louisiana was destroyed in Hurricane Laura...literally "Gone with the Wind"! We have not found a replacement yet and need to make a decision immediately because Hurricane season is upon us again! Thanks in advance.

We were told that CertainTeed Landmark Pro is the likely substitute for the Independence. In our situation, old versus new is really not discernible.
